I love the idea of them (I’ve got some wooden thistle flowers that I’m going to be making mine out of).

The first one is too wire-y for me (is that a word) but I LOVE the colors.  I really love the second one but think it needs something more.  Can you put a fabric piece or lace piece behind the whole thing to add some length to the top (does that make sense)?

I was just doing a search for these earlier and came across these ideas:

I agree with milesbella, you have a good start but you need some fabric leaves or lace behind the buttons to give the bout some height.  If you google for images of  button boutinnieres you will get lots of good ideas.  Here are a couple I saw and saved for you:

Good luck! ๐Ÿ™‚

I agree with the felt leaves idea.

I like the two leaves better … and yes, they look FABULOUS now!

After seeing these as inspiration yesterday, I went to find my own buttons to add to mine (to go along w/the wood flowers).  Fiance saw what I was doing and says he reallys wants real flowers.  Seriously, how in the world did I find the ONE guy who cares more about the wedding details than I do?!  I’m a perfectionist to a fault, but I really want a vintage-shabby chic wedding with non-traditional details.  He defintely wants traditional.  Oh well …I may make one just for fun and maybe he’ll fall in love with it.

So….I copied your photo and sent it to him in an email and he called me and said, “OMG, I LOVE it!”  Apparently, he just needed to SEE it.

So…I don’t suppose you want to give me a quick tutorial on how you did it and the exact items you used.  Now he wants them to look JUST like yours (except in our colors – navy blue, ivory and gold).

Specifically, what did you use to wrap the buttons together (and is that the same thing you used for the wire-y green leaves.  What material did you use for the leaves (and if it is felt, where did you find felt with a pattern)?

Finally, what did you use to wrap the stem and how did you adhere it to make it stick.

The rest of it, I can figure out … I’m still laughing at him (he’s so funny) but I’m SO glad he loves them as much as I do (and they’ll last forever and won’t die).

And … I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the flowers – you’re doing a fabulous job!

I can totally do this.  So it’s a separate thick paper wire around the bottom.  Did you get that at Joannes too?  I’m heading to Hobby Lobby over my lunch hour — do you think the wire would be in the floral department or ???

Thanks so much!
