Ever since I started searching for cute cake toppers, I really loved the idea of handpainting peg dolls to look like us, like I had seen on Etsy. (I so wish I could afford the Esty prices, but I was pretty much forced to DIY–grad school dilemmas π lol) My dress is really detailed (Watters Torreon–LOVE it) and I really want to make it resemble my dress’s texture, so it’s taking quite a while! This is what I have so far π

I started out painting an ivory base for the dress, and then I made a few tiny flowers, a scalloped hem, and a sweetheart neckline out of some scrap ivory lace I had from previous craft projects. I cut out even more little flowers from eggshell satin and glued those onto the top and the skirt.
Then, I added teeny tiny (3mm) flatback crystals to the centers of a few flowers–ta-da! All in all, this took about 2-3 hours to paint, cut out, glue, and seal. My next plan of action: hair and a mini tulle veil. Then to paint FI!

Finished!!!

All in all, I believe these cost me 7-8 dollars to make. I hope this post inspires someone else to make their own. It was a lot of fun!!! π

Oh my goodness! These are adorable! I love them so much. You did a great job. DIY is the best π
My wedding is a mere 2 weeks away and I’m now thinking of changing my plan and trying to do these cake toppers instead of the molded chocolate initials we were initially planning on

@LeavinOnAJetPlane: Thank you! I made the ponytail out of a tiny piece of Sculpey (molding it to the doll’s head), and then after baking it, I glued it on and painted over it.
