I decided to do a one-tier card box, and honestly – glad that I did! I had a hard time finding the nesting boxes (would have thought that would have been easier – suggest buying them off Amazon if you want them, I checked Hobby Lobby, Joann’s, TJ Maxx, Dollar Store, and Michael’s). Ended up getting an ugly decorative storage box from TJ Maxx that had a hole in the side so they discounted it to $7 – didn’t care about it, I was covering it with fabric anyway.
Total cost was around $28 and about 2.5 hours – these go for around $70 on Etsy. The fabric is a nice purple shantung, the photo from my phone in the basement doesn’t do it any justice. Used a wired ribbon because the bows hold their shape better and I like working with it better. Spray adhesive to attach the fabric. Used pliers to pull of the hardware from the ugly box I bought.
If you are crafty, this is a pretty easy project. You definitely want to strategize how you’re going to do your box & ribbon around it. Each of the pieces is separate, and glued on the bottom (will peel up when we are ready to open it for the cards, tried to use a staple gun but the gun was broken). Then I tied the two middles together using floss, made the bow separately, and tied the bow on using floss as well – blended right in. Floss is amazing. Glued the rhinestone button on top after cutting off the shank (PS, rhinestone buttons can be expensive, shop around. I saw anywhere from $3 – $18).
Here was my inspiration:
This is the most simliar picture I could find to what I bought, wish I’d taken a before photo:
And here’s my box – I will add a nice matted paper badge to the front that says “Cards”. Fabric is the same as in the inspiration, just didn’t photograph as well.
