I saw this on Bridezillas, so it may slant my view. It looked messy and tacky instead of beautiful and cool. There is no way I am dealing with frosting dressed up. You would have lots of left over, unfrosted cupcakes and a huge mess from the kids. I think you could do a cupcake stand as a centerpiece or a topping bar. I wouldn’t do both.

Good call. I’d be wary of having guests do anything at the wedding. Now if it were a true bar set up on the side of the room, and you had a baker thathad 3 types of cupcakes and 3 types of frosting, and guests culd pick a combo and the baker does the actual work, maybe. Event then I foresee long lines.
I think cupcake centerpieces are cute as heck. Just don’t make your guests do work – it’s not activity time. It’s a wedding.

I think DIY cupcakes is a very bad idea…the part where you have to bake and ice them. I considered doing a DIY sweets bar. Honestly, you will be spending days baking cupcakes and stressing over it right before your wedding. Cupcakes you cant freeze, and you would need to do them like the day before your wedding. Please dont take on that task…your going to have enough to worry about!
But I also dont really like the idea of decorating your own cupcakes… its cute for like a childs birthday, but I dont think its so cute for an adult wedding.
I do like the idea of having a crepe bar though! That would be cool!
