If you missed my other posts where I:
Talk about not knowing what I want for my dress:
Finally deciding what I want and doing something about it:
Then you’re caught up to today, where I buy more fabric and change my mind, again.
I hadn’t worked on my dress since I last posted and during our first snow fall today I decided to get my butt into gear.
I’m still finishing up the “base” (the silk crepe-de-chine that I hand dyed and hand pinned/sewed as shown in the previous post) and while I was procrastinating fixing a mess I made in the back (evidence not shown here, or anywhere) I decided to start playing with this OTHER lace I bought off of ebay. During a freak out a couple months ago, I bought 2 yards of this and when I got it in the mail (for $5) LOVED IT but wasn’t sure how I could use it. It’s actually a trim, but I love the vintage vibe I get from it and I love the color (a nice off-white). Then it hit me.. why don’t I change my mind again and go with this lace instead? sounds great!
“new” lace close-up:
I’ve tried to love this lace from the last posts:
I got a great deal on this original lace on ebay originally I bought the lace for $150, but when it arrived it had some black marker marks on the fabric. Trying to make it work I emailed the seller and she ended up giving me 50% of my money back. STEAL! I was able to get the stains out by scrubbing lightly with stain-spot cleaner so we were back on track, or so I thought.
I want(ed) to love it, because yet again I had spent more money and bought this lace because I thought this was the one… but there was something off about it. I almost convinced myself I was sold, I was going to use this lace and it was going to be beautiful (which it probably would have turned out that way). I wanted to be, but I wasn’t completely sold, mostly because I didn’t like that it was bright-white and it’s polyester (yuck) so I couldn’t dye it the off-white i had imagined (the seller had it listed as ivory online but it’s not, at all)
Fast-forwarding to today, when I thought “just for fun” i’d pin this new lace I had and the result was glorious. It felt right. So I high-tailed my butt downstairs onto ebay to see if the seller had more of this new fabirc and low and behold they did! $30 later I bought enough to make the new dress idea and here I am blogging about it.
I’m going to hand-stitch the fabric down the dress to create layers. Here are two rows just pinned to get the idea:
once I get the fabric in the mail, I’ll keep going until the lace goes all the way down.
I feel better about this and heck, it was $30 to buy the fabric and could end up being amazing! It feels more me, and gives me more of the vintage vibe I was going for but still making it unique.
Will I change my mind? Will I ever make a decision and stick to it? Keep checking back to find out! Only 9 months until my big day!
