They look like popsicle sticks. We did something similar, and the stick I bought were popsicle sticks but larger. I will look for a pic when I get home.

They do sell these craft sticks at michaels or hobby lobby. I didnt like the ones I saw in the store because they were only 6 inches long and I was following the model of a professional made fan that has an 8inch stick so it has more support in the center so I ordered from perfectstix.com.  I chose the wavy ones, but they also have regular straight ones too.

They look like popsicle sticks to me, too.  Have you considered paint stir sticks?  We went to Homd Depot and asked the guy if we could have some for a craft project – and offered to pay – but he said no problem and just gave us 100!  They’re certainly longer and sturdier than popsicle sticks, but don’t always have pretty rounded edges, so you might want to “shop” around.

Hobby Lobby calls the larger one “craft sticks” – bells posted it! It’s more substantial than a basic popsicle stick.
