- Wedding: June 2012
When I was first told that my venue would not allow anything being dropped on the grounds all I could think was “hello, ever been to a wedding?!” & “goodbye dream of swimming through huge amounts of soft petals”. But, I found an alternative, a very cute one in fact!
If you are on these boards then I know you have seen the “here comes the bride” take for flower girls. When I first discovered this I KNEW I needed it in my wedding. There are some great avenues to venture to make these understated announcements, some being a chic design on chalkboards or a rustic feel a wooden painted heart. I fell in love with all of these- only one glitch- I’m an out of town bride and the whole purpose of me making these myself is to save that dolla dolla bill! So I wasn’t looking to hack down a tree and mail it cross-country.
My idea stemmed from the feel of my entire day which will be rich with texture mainly through different types of fabrics. I DIY my Save-The-Date Cards and bunting pennants and from that had some left over linen scraps that soon became my banners!
I cut the length using peaking shears and then folded the length in half “hot dog style”
Next I sewed the pieces together to form a pocket for a dowel rod to be placed. Within the sewed pieces I also placed a cut of caged ivory lace to drape down showing its scalloped edges- gives a nice wedding vibe- From there I used some white wash paint to brush on the lovely text adding dimension with a “barn wood” color and FIN! It was complete!
What are your flower girls taking down the aisle?
