I found some really nice guestbooks at Ross for about $8 the other day but none of them matched our colors. So I bought one to try and see what I could do to try and customize it since it had everything else I wanted inside the book and I wanted to try something new.
I started messing with it before I started taking pictures but I took some nail polish remover and a q-tip, and rubbed it into each flower petal. It seemed to be some sort of latex-type paint. It took me a while to find a good method but I found it helped to spread some nail polish remover on each part, let it dry, reapply, and then rub off with a paper towel. It’s not necessary to continuously saturate each part–it was easier to rub off when the remover dried. I tried a napkin that was of a smoother texture and it didn’t work very well. The paper towel’s texture and roughness helped rub off the ink. I used firm pressure and rubbed over the ink in circles, up and down, and side to side motions to get the ink off in all directions.
Once I got the hang of it, it took about an hour. Don’t rub in the nail polish remover too hard in a very concentrated area and be gentle rubbing around seams and corners. Definitely test the nail polish remover somewhere that is not noticeable first before tackling the front cover.
I haven’t decided what to do with the cover but I have a blank slate to start with. It’d definitely be worth the time if someone found a really good deal on a guestbook that didn’t quite match their theme. I just wanted to experiment and pardon my messy kitchen table 🙂
Note: Aahh I messed up all the photo attachments but I think you get the idea! How do you delete the pics?
