I’m putting out a call to all you DIY hair and makeup brides out there for suggestions, tips and advice or just general help…
I’m planning on doing my own hair and makeup for my wedding mostly due to location and time restrictions but in part also due to personal perference. I’m going to be married out of town at 11am – there wouldn’t be time for any trials beforehand, and even trying to schedule sometime to happen before the wedding would be a pain so I’m opting to do makeup and hair myself. Also, I perfer doing it myself because I’ve been to so many weddings where the bride either looks totally different or totally caked with makeup and I don’t want that being me. 🙁
I usually don’t wear much makeup- I hate foundation and only ever wear liquid eyeliner religiously. I’m not planning on straying to far from my everyday look other than adding some color and jazzing things up a bit- I really do just want a nice natural look… My question is can any of you throw out some suggestions as to brands or products to try… I hear of people using tinited moisterizers… I was thinking of maybe doing with and using MAC’s blot powder on top to try and control any shine. Also for lips I was thinking of using locrac’s lip stain for color with chapstick to give a little shine…
As for hair, I was thinking of doing a half-up half-down style and curling my hair…
Any suggestions, advice, or other ideas or thoughts out there?

I think you should go with full foundation. I don’t wear it on a daily bases either, but I went to all the makeup counters and Sephora and Ulta to find the best stuff for my skin. They have light to medium foundations out there, as well as buildable foundation, so you should try a bunch of different ones before you rule it out. A lot of people like MAC, but I ended up going with Elizabeth Arden Intervene. I would definitely recommend MAC’s Pro Longwear Lipstick. It stays on all night and I found it to be much much better than a lip stain. If you want more specifics of all the stuff I got, feel free to PM me.
You should ask for little samples to take home and practice applying when you have a nice event to go to.

Definitely wear some powder! I wore loose and pressed powder over a light foundation over primer/moisturizer. I added more blush than I would normally wear becuase of the lighting in the pictures and put on as much mascara as I could (I couldn’t wear the fake ones)….i watched you tube videos on how to do my eyes for the big day, got soo many tips! I think I looked way better than any of the waste of money makeup trials I bothered with!

Wearing a well-matched foundation will make a huge difference in your photos. A light one shouldn’t look cakey or artificial. Also try one without SPF, or you’ll reflect sunlight and camera flashes with a pale reflection.

Make sure that your hair is SPRAYED. I suggest Kenra 40. The half up/half down will be good for the curls and take some weight off. Maybe you can braid the top a bit for structure at the back (very losely, so it doesn’t look like a braid).
