We are eloping in either March or May of 2013 on the beach along the Mendocino coast of California. I wanted my MU to be just like my everyday MU but amped up a notch. I normally wear my hair blown out with a round brush but ever since I got my dress (a slim A-line ivory flowy chiffon with a corset back and a little bit of beading on the left hip) I have decided I think I was loose beachy curls and a hair flower (no veil). Here’s what I came up with… first 2 are in natural lighting and second 2 are with a pretty harsh flash (we are getting portraits done outside so I probably don’t need to worry too much about flash):
For hair, I sectioned hair into three sections (below the ear, between ear and temple, and top layers) and curled it all away from my face alternating every other curl between a 1.5″ iron and a 3/4″ iron. With the smaller iron, I didn’t use the clip and just wrapped the hair around the barrel. I curled the top front layers with the larger iron only going away from the face. Then I teased the crown and roots and hair sprayed everything lightly before pinning a section back with a bobby pin. The hair flower I’m using is likely a stand in until I can find something prettier.
Product breakdown… everything I used I already owned (I’m a budget bride):
John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Daily shampoo and Moisturizing conditioner
Eufora Sculpting Glaze gel (while wet)
John Frieda Smoothing Cream (while wet)
Tresemme heat protectant (after dry, applied with fingers)
Chi Silk Infusion (after dry)
Paul Mitchell Volume Hair Spray (after finished)
Revlon Colorstay (dry formulation, buff mixed with sand beige 70/30) applied with damp sponge
Bronzer (as contour) and light pink blush from a palette by Victoria’s Secret
Milani Luminoso baked blush (on apples)
After this, I blended everything out using a fluffy brush and Almay loose powder Covergirl Shimmering Sands quad (lightest color for highlight, darkest for crease) NYX Champagne and Caviar Palette (beige brown for all over lid color, dark brown for liner on top and bottom)
Revlon Colorstay eyeliner in black (tightline)
Maybelline Full n Soft mascara in blackest black
Maybelline brow pencil in medium brown
Beauty by Carmindy lipstick in Perfect Pink
I’m super pleased so far, but any advice is welcomed! I’m also looking for hair flower suggestions if anyone has any ideas.

The makeup is amazing! You did GOOD.
The hair seems to be dropped a little(I see a straight section in a couple of the pics), so you might want to ensure that does not happen for the big day- but all in all pretty!

Beautiful! You did a very good job, I wish I could get my skin to look so flawless!

You look great, I would try to tighten the curls up more, with being on a beach the wind will be blowing you want the curls to hold throughout the ceremony and photos after.

@MrsOliveBird: Thank you! I noticed the straight piece, too. I think next time I’ll try pinning the curls in shape as they cool. Maybe that will tighten them up and make them last longer.
@Lovemelovemyhorses: In my experience, the key to faking it looking flawless in photos is to wear FULL coverage and layer it on several times! I was doing this before with not so great results in photos– my skin would end up looking too flat/unnatural. But then I added in the bronzer as a contour and it photographed like this. That’s also why I used two shades of blush. It also didn’t look bad or cakey in person either (I think the powder helped). My skin is so NOT perfect! 🙂
@mishagirls79: Great point about the wind!! Thanks so much. See my comment to MrsOliveBird above about what I’ll try next time for tighter curls that hold better.

I love your makeup! It looks fresh, flatters you and does not look overdone. I would only work on your eye brows with a pencil or brown eyeshadow to fill the gaps.

@vesnushka: Thank you! I’ll try to fill in the tiny spaces with a matte shadow probably. My brows are the bane of my existence!!

Darken the brows and you will look gorgeous And good to go!

Thanks so much everyone! The more I look at it the more I agree about the brows and the curls. I love me some volume but my fine/thick hair always wants to fall flat! I need to tease every single piece or something, haha. 🙂
