If you’re wearing it down, use some hot rollers. If you do one or both by yourself, practice! Check out youtube for hair and makeup help. I’ve linked some of my favorite videos.

@NYCowgirl:  I was supposed to go for a trial run for a friend’s wedding years ago, the MUA made me look like I got punched in the eyes (eek). So I told her I’d do my own makeup. If you have a regular routine, just stick to it, but maybe put a little more makeup on than usual, to show up in pictures.

Is there a friend or relative that’s good with hair that could help you fix yours? Maybe a student at a nearby beauty college might be able to help you with both, for a much smaller fee than what salons charge. Good luck.

@NYCowgirl:  I am totally having this dilemma right now too.. I was always certain that I wanted to do my own makeup for my wedding and was even more sure of it when I heard that Kate Middleton did her own makeup and she looked well, as good as ever IMO. I think you should give your artist really really crystal clear instructions on what you want, save some pictures on your phone of the different eyes/lips/skin etc. that you like of models etc. and show them to her/him. I’d also take my makeup bag with some extra supplies just in case you decide to redo or touch up.

I’d do the same for the hair, too, take pictures, it’s so much easier to explain. Of course to prepare for that you’d need a very precise idea of what you want so do some research first! If you’re not already on Pinterest, just sign up and then do a search for “bridal hair” you’ll get hundreds of inspiring pics….

@NYCowgirl:  I did DIY make-up trials for my boudoir and engagement shoot.  I’m pretty sure I’m going to be doing the same thing for my wedding.  I usually don’t like how much make-up the MUA uses (I’m not a foundation or concealer person) because it feels so caked on.  Here I’m wearing powder (translucent mineral), mascara, eyeliner (pencil), eye shadow, lip/cheek stain, and I have not had my hair done:

Here I’ve had my hair done, I’m wearing false lashes, eyeliner (liquid and pencil), eye shadow, lip/cheek stain, lip gloss, powder (translucent mineral)

@NYCowgirl:  I knew I wanted to do my own makeup, so I did a trial run. I wanted to make sure it showed up nice in pictures, and the wedding was outdoors, so after I did it i I took a lot of pictures of myself outdoors as I adjusted the amount so I could know how much I wanted to wear.

As for the hair, it is much easier if you can have someone help you so that you can get the back right, especially if you are doing curls or an updo. However, if you are wearing a veil and setting it up high, that will help hide any flaws. Either way, I think having some assistance with hair is good. I went on youtube for both hair and makeup and watched a bunch of tutorials so I could see what I liked and get some pointers.

i think i will do my own makeup. my whole life i never got my make up done professionaly, so why should i get it done for my wedding? thats my thinking.

i will, however, probably do a few trial runs and buy good quality make up such as MAC or bare essentials for my wedding.

im having my maid of honor’s mom do my hair because she is a hair-designer. so i lucked out big time there.  if she wasnt a hair designer i probably would do my hair myself. just loose curls..down.

stick to who you are 🙂

@NYCowgirl:  my hair is naturally straight, i usually wear it down. on special occasions i will curl it, so i think that’s what i will have done for the wedding day. i’m not sure if i want to wear a flower crown or just a flower clip.  if i wear a flower clip i’ll pull one side of my hair up into it. maybe you can do somethign like that? have your hair the same — with just a touch of something different and romantic. i’m still getting nervous about the make up part. im terrible at putting eyeliner on but i want my eyes to pop a little in pictures.  your wedding is soon 🙂 you must be so excited. do you have everything done?

Im doing my own i am a hair and makeup artist but even i was unsure! beleive it or not i am fab at doing other pples but never bother with my own! i shall be having lots of practice prior. and for my hair my mum is helping. as the other bee said heated rollers are fab.. i swear by them. by mum will be helping me cuz my hair is realllly long so she will put rollers in for me

alternatively blowdry your hair put in velcro rollers with spritz of spray and put hair dryer on low put small amount of heat on for a few secs and then leave them to cool while you do makeup(or 1 hour). this will be fab if u dont want it curly just with body and so it looks ‘done’.

I use babyliss heated rollers. there are 3 different sizes. so put them on and leave them to heat for 20 min. use a pin tail comb ( a comb with long thing on the other end) take sections of hair the same size as the roller. comb the section spritz with setting / blowdrying spray ( wella one is good) and roller the hair u can use the end of your comb to tuck sections in as you go. use the larger rollers at the top then medium as you work your way down and smallest rollers at the bottom of your head. roll them in the direction you want the hair to sit. ie if you have a side fringe put the roller in the direction you want your fringe to sit.

here is an easy few tutorials of how to put them in:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kal2IKFWQgs

i personally wouldnt backcomb like them.

for those who prefer more curl i use straighteners or babyliss wand to curl the bottom 1/2 the hair. then roller the top half

you could always pop in some clip in extensions to thicken your hair up. they are soo easy to put in and totally fool proof.

here are some videos i found of putting them in:

if you use them curl them first then when your hair is curled start sectioning and putting them in. remembering to back comb the roots as you go to avoid clips slipping.they blend amazing with curly hair

if you curl with tongs or straighteners and ur hair drops easily then after each section u curl, roll the curl up in its self to create a pin curl and pin it. do the whole head spray leave for 20 min then take them all out.

I hope this is helpful!xxx
