Is anyone else out there planning on doing their own hair and makeup?
I’m not 100% decided yet, but I think I am leaning towards just doing it all myself.
Has anyone else considered this or want to share any pics of hair inspiration they are considering? 🙂

I’m doing my own makeup (not my own hair as I don’t even know how to curl). I have super sensitive skin and have to order special makeup online, and I’m also a super perfectionist. It is very likely that I would touchup the makeup once I’m home. It just seems too much money when I still would have to buy the makeup for my sensitive skin and I’m already pretty good at makeup

I did my own make-up, but not my own hair (I don’t even own a hair brush lol). My only tip is to wear more make-up than you think and take a few pictures to see what it looks like in photos. I felt like I was wearing a lot of make-up (I normally don’t wear any), but when I got my engagement photos back you could hardly tell I was wearing anything.

I’m definitely doing my own make-up, I’ve had it done professionally before and hated it! I might try some smokey eye tutorials beforehand though. Not sure about the hair, make-up can be fixed easily but hair disaster would be nightmare on wedding day, especially if you have long hair, if you do decide to do it yourself just make sure you practice the style several times before your big day!

I’m doing my own makeup, but someone with two broken hands could do hair better than me so I have no problem paying someone for that!

I am particular with my makeup and haven’t been satisfied with anyone so I’m doing my own. I’m also doing my hair bc I’m just curling it and putting a hair flower clip in.

I’m doing my own hair and makeup. I had a make up tutorial at Blue Mercury to give me an idea of products that might work, and I’m not nervous at all about the makeup.
The hair… well, that will be okay too but I’m a bit more nervous. I’m just doing simple curls with hot rollers. Here’s a good tutorial: http://vimeo.com/22514990
I thought I might want to put it up for the reception, in which a gibson tuck is SUPER easy and still looks fancy. You basically just roll your hair around the headband you are already wearing or a roller.

- Wedding: September 2014 - Waldorf Astoria, Chicago
There is no way I’m doing my own. I am horrible at doing my hair, I can’t even curl it for a night out!! I want to look my best on my wedding so for sure hiring a professional to make me look great.

I had both of mine done professionally and wish I had just done it all myself. One of my biggest regrets.

Hozzelbear: DIY make up = YAY but DIY hair = NAY for me.
ETA: I had both done professionally. While my make up was nice, I would’ve liked it more had I done it myself.

I am! I had a friend who went to MAC school help me learn how to do my make up (I’ve always been a mascara only type of girl). We went to Sephora and I got some “good” stuff, I’ve been practicing and I’m so glad I’m going this route. We are having a Destination Wedding and I was afraid of using a resort salon. I don’t have any pictures of the make up, though.
My Bridesmaid or Best Man is going my hair. Here’s a pic of our first hair trial. Round two will include more volume up top, we forgot to tease, oops. And a little better (less messy) curl placement.
ETA: Not sure why the pic is so squished, but if you right click “view image” it will show you what it should look like.

Hozzelbear: I think either way is fine. It’s just going to depend on which you’d rather prefer. If you’re particular about makeup and hair and/or you’re comfortable doing both on your own, I would totally go for DIY.
I wanted to go the DIY route for engagement photos to save some money, but since I don’t wear too much makeup or style my hair on a daily basis, I was clueless on how to pull it off. I ended up watching YouTube for tutorials and recently bought new makeup and hot rollers. I’m currently practicing and experimenting for the shoot that will take place in a week and half.
I hired a MUA and hair stylist for the wedding though. I definitely want a more polished look that I know I could never achieve on my own, plus wedding days are hectic enough as it is, so I want to be able to just sit back and relax.

I think I’ll just have some faith in myself and DIY it! I am pretty okay at doing hair, I can manage some nice upstyles and when I do my moms she always gets asked which hair dressers did she go to (so thats gottta be a good sign, right?!) hope so anyway!!

I went to a makeup store last night and got some nice new makeup for eyes that I’m going to try out.

But that has brought up a whole new concern!! I live in a relativly cold (and very wet) climate we are having a Destination Wedding and its going to be HOT! so I hope the makeup I like/perfect here doesn’t end up sliding right off my face on the big day lol….. or hair frizz!
