I have searched on wedding bee but was not able to locate any DIY directions on how to build a tiered cupcake stand. Therefore, I have attached a photo of the stand my fiance and I are attempting to build.
We spoke with our wedding cake designer about this design and the only way we can have this type of cupcake tower is if we build it ourselves out of wood.
We were thinking of going to Home Depot and looking for some wooden dowels and circular wood pieces to drill holes into the middle of and sliding the dowel through. However, we are stuck on how to hold up the different tiers.
Do you have any other ideas or other places where I can get supplies for this project?
Suggestions are greatly appreciated! 🙂
Thank you in advance!

my biggest worry would be to make sure it stays balanced. what about a layer of mdf with a small glass/wood block glued in the middle then a mdf layer glued on top of that to create the space. as the cupcakes are only one layer on the outside you can use a bigger block of wood or cup as it wont be seen and it would help balance the tower.
i dont know how much it would cost but http://www.raisethecake.com/ might be able to quote you on a custom made

Masonite would probably be stong enough to support the weight if the circles weren’t too big. I don’t think I would try to make a single center dowel. I would try to build each layer as a unit, then stack each unit on top of the other.
After staring at the example photo for a minute, 6 or 8 inch PVC pipe cut into 6 inch lenghts or longer, could be easily covered with fabric, they would be light weight and you could attach the flat circular board with hot glue or blobs of polymer clay or even caulking.
You could try taking the photo to Lowe’s or Home Depot, ans make friends with one of the workers and ask them what would be a good way to build something like that would be.

Here is a tutorial for a DIY cupcake tower that uses MDFboard (medium-density fiberboard) and PVC piping. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work for what you’re trying to do.
you would just obviously change the directions to match what you’re trying to accomplish

For the middle supports you could try concrete forms too, they come in a ton of sizes!

Cupcake tree is a good place to get a base, then you can just decorate it. 🙂

That is such an awesome inspiration picture…I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
I think the MDF and PVC piping tutorial might be a good way to go!
