My DIY motto is, don’t pay for something you can do yourself… I’m an October 2012 bride, so I still have a decent amount of time left (although the weeks have been flying)…this thread got me thinking and I was able to put my list together (which I’ve been meaning to do:

 – Invitations (invite, belly band, buying pocketfold, directions card, RSVPs) – 20% done

 – Escort Cards (homemade lollipops, lables, holder)

 – Wine Favor for Rehearsal Dinner/WP members, close family – 80% done, we made the wine and bottled it, now we just have to make a label

 – Mr & Mrs. Signs

 – Centerpiece designs (I have all the pieces, now I need to arrange)

 – Table Numbers

 – Other paper products – Programs, Save the Dates (done), Menu Cards, Day of Timeline for Wedding Party, I SPYs for kids

 – Homemade chocolate candy favors – boxes are put together, making the candy in September

 – Flowers (true touch flower bouts (8) and corsages (4) and real flower bouquets and ceremony and reception flowers will be done night before and morning of)

 – Sweetheart table and cake table decor – to include ribbon wall backdrop

 – Cake stand (plexiglass and vases)

 – Bathroom baskets

 – Card Box

 – Out of Town Bags (10-15)

 – Welcome sweets table (chocolate dipped goodies to be made week leading up to wedding)

 – Etched glasses for Wedding Party (pilsner, hurricanes and wine)

 – Signage for all tables

 – Wishing tree & tags

 – Aisle Runner

I will probably have over a year and a half for this, no date yet but the plans are for:

1) Save the dates and invitations

2) 3 infinity bridesmaid dresses + flower girl dress (or just the sash if she wants a fancy white dress instead of an infinity dress, she’s 4 1/2 and probably more fashion savvy than me)

3) Shoe clips

4) Hair accessories (+veil unless dress comes with one cheap!)

5) Guest tree

6) Table runners

7) Flowers, bouquets & centerpieces

8) Place cards

9) Napkin rings? (might fold them all fancy instead)

10) Cardbox

11) Food and drinks! (with family help on the day, omg I love them)

12) Aisle runner

13) Aisle markers (chair bows)

14) Wedding arch & decorations

15) Flower girl basket & Ring bearer pillow

16) Favors whatever they will be

17) Activity books

18) Cake topper/decorations

19) Cupcake stands

20) Mr & Mrs chair signs

Um…omg…

Here’s what I’ve got..relatively short list though, I decided to be lazy and pay for things, but I spent a LOT of time researching and finding the cheapest possible deal!

1. I’m painting Dollar Tree picture frames, putting three frames on each table, one each of Fiance & I as kids and one as an adult. Only about halfway through painting because I got lazy.

2. Made my own brooch bouquet (DONE!)

3. Made our handfasting cords (Also done, but super easy & quick!)

4. I want to make him a sewn notebook paper thing, with my vows on it. I’m about halfway through with this and then I gave up on it again (oops!).

wow you ladies are productive! I hope you all post pictures of your wonderful projects!

My list is a tad bit unconventional prehaps, but like PPs i have not organized it in to a formal list as of yet so this is a great idea.

1. Dress – Allready mostly done (hem, attach bodice to skirt, a bunch of top stitching and repairing the zipper are left)

2. Sash

3. Invites 60-ish of them – I haven’t even started yet… paper should be here this week!

4. Knitted lace shawl/bolero (I still have to dye the yarn, but it is spun allready!)

5. Nate’s vest (havn’t even ordered the fabric)

6. Favors (making blueberry jam, need to wait for summer for the blueberries, then need to can about 60 jars and make cute tags)

7. Map (this should be under invites?) We are getting them printed but I will be tea-staining them and embroidering the location.

8. Tables… we need to make 2 or maybe three sturdy tables for the reception… Ill put the men on that task.

9. Thank you cards

10. A sign that tells guests how to get to the ceremony (I can’t guarentee our map is good enough)

11. I will come up with some brilliant DIY idea for a guest book… i don’t know what this will be yet, but it will be awesome and I will make it.

I probably have too many, especially too many that have to be done in the days before/day of the wedding. I basically want to do everything lol, but we are also just not having a lot of things.

-Invitations- I’ll be designing them and assembling them, but having them printed (save headaches; avoid cutting straight lines)

-Veil & Sash- very minor sewing projects, IMO.

-Decor- this will make me happy and be fun. It’ll be mostly just collecting things for centerpieces, maybe sewing up a few linens, and procuring place settings and glasses. The rest of the decor will actually be sprucing up the “venue” (parent’s backyard) which I will probably not be that involved in.

-Food. Yep, all the food. I hope to have lots and lots of help making sandwiches and scones, but who knows who will be able to help. I think our food will be really awesome though so I don’t have stress over this one.

-Cake. This one I will have no help on, and I’m known to have minor breakdowns every time I try to make a cake on deadline. Yaaaay.

-Flowers- will be bought and arranged the day before with TJs/Costco flowers, just bouquets and maybe bouts if the guys want them. I know this is risky but I’ve decided to not be picking because I want to spend the least money on flowers. They’re just going to die and it will be depressing. Centerpieces will be potted flowers and done ahead of time.

-Music, but I’ll try to pin this on Fiance, he has more taste.

There’s probably more, but that’s all I can think of ATM.

Wow all of you women make me feel good about my DIY projects. I have a lot but my fam thinks I’m nuts for taking on DIY in general lol. But hey if i can cut costs and do a better customized job.. why not? The wedding isnt til nov/dec 2012 so i have plenty of time as well. This is awesome though, i didn’t think to write it all out for us to see what we have on our plates! So here’s mine:

– Custom Polaroid guestbook & pen. (made from scratch by myself) 85% done.

– Custom Card Box

– Custom Sculpted Cake Topper

– Custom monogram (i design)

– Various Calligraphed framed signs for photobooth, polaroid guestbook, etc

– Camera setup for Photobooth and Polaroid guestbook

– Peony, Stephatonis, Gardenias, & Garden Roses Bouquet & Throwing Bouquet (throwing bouquet may be of a diff medium.. maybe flowers mixed with candy pops) & boutinere

– 18-20 Manzanita tree Table centerpieces strung with crystals and fresh flowers on the base (hydrangeas) and hanging glittered stars. (i’ll have help from my mom and aunt on this one)

– Floral Centerpiece for table in front of bride and groom

– Photobooth (this one’s a maybe depending on budget.) (ill make Fiance build it)

– Fancy Banquet Seat covers (mom is making this one.)

– 50-75 Invitations: Designed, printed, silkscreened (the ouside of the pocketfolds), and put together. Pieces: Pocketfold, Invitation with writing, outer decorative paper to go behind invitation, envelope with envelope liner, Extra info: map, rsvp, registry, etc, Bellyband

– Chocolate Covered Oreo Cookies Favors. (2 per box, 175 boxes) (cousins can help)

– Favor box design (I’ll make my cousins help me with this one as well)

– Pomanders to hang up on rented large manzanita trees.

– Possibly a 4 teired wedding cake. (I want to, I’ve made cakes before, but my mom and Fiance think im crazy with this one lol) with a tree bark slab as the stand.

– Crystal decorated Pump Heels

– Isle Runner

– Candy/ Dessert Buffet Table (maybe)

– General Decoration: Giant balloons, string lights, tulle fabric, uplighting, etc.

– Still deciding between my FI’s firebird or a limo for our ride to come in/ leave. I’d like to use his Firebird, but we’d have to decorate it so its more.. wedding like.

Okay maybe I am a little nuts.. But its ok! You only get married once! (hopefully lol)

My list of DIYs:

-veil (COMPLETE—- 40+ hrs)

-invitations (1/2 done)

-calligraphy on envelopes (nothing completed)

-signs for card box, photography, seating, etc (nothing)

-table signs (2 hrs and done!)

-my necklace and bracelet (4 hrs and done!)

-escort cards (nothing)

-magnetic board for escort cards (nothing)

-button magnets to hold up escort cards (2 hrs and done!)

I think that is it! The centrepieces are DIY, but they are just vases with river rock, long grass and a floating candle, so not much to do there. The decorations are all DIY, but really just involve putting pictures into frames. The guest book is a thumbprint tree, but just needs to be printed. We are not doing favours or programs.

Wow you guys have a lot. I don’t have that many because I am not crafty at all and instead of wasting time and money ruining things I figured I admit my short comings from the start.

My Fmil and Future Sister-In-Law were so excited because they craft a lot so they will be making,

Placecards/escortcards, table numbers, and a few other random things. The only thing I will be doing is probaly making out of town bags for the guest again if I have time, I’ve seen a few I have so I might end up buying those too!
