ladies, my reception is in a barn with long family style tables. I plan to use lanterns in the center of the table set on top of a sliver of log, and surrounded fall silk fall foliage (Oct wedding). Since the tables are so long (seat 12), I feel like I need a little something extra on the two sides of the table.
our food is being served family style, so I need something that is short(to pass food over)… Does anyone have any ideas? I’m afraid that flowers will be too tall and look strange w a lantern center piece.
thanks in advance!

Maybe something like this?
Not sure if this fits your vision but this is really simple but cute!

What about fancy squash? Or little pumpkins?

@Sa7208: we’re pretty mush doing the same thing, but as most tables are 30″ wide and most plates are 10″ I wanted to make sure there was enough room to put things on the tables. If you crowd the table with center pieces you will have difficulty with the family style service.
Just for thought: we are doing beer bottles wrapped in yarn with a couple hydrangea stems in the bottle. We will have 2 – 8′ tables pushed together to have one large table (16 seats) each 8′ table will have 2 wine carafes (one red, one white), 8 mismatched plates, silverware, a bird nest salt and pepper shaker, 3 yarn bottles and a butter bowl.
I haven’t done a mock up yet, but I think we will have just enough space for family style.
If I was set on having lanterns, I wouldn’t go taller than 6″, maybe look at ikea? the lanterns they have on there might give you some good ideas.
You could line theses lanters in 3’s aling each table
Sort of like this but replace the vases with the lanterns with candles
