Our engagement party is coming up in 3 weeks and Fiance and I got a quote to hire those giant “LOVE” letters that people use for photos and decor…like these…. https://www.google.com.au/search?q=giant+love+letters&client=firefox-a&hs=vxS&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=fflb&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=ZMooVLaRE4WZ8QWW0ID4CA&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1787&bih=830&dpr=0.9
They range anywhere from 300-650 to hire which is a little ridiculous for us!
So we decided to give it a crack ourselves and thus was born the LOVE making project (pun intended)
Here are our progress pics so far! I think they are coming out really great so far and once they are done they are going to be awesome.
Thinking of wrapping them up in fairy lights to give them a little more magic 🙂 I will keep posting pics as we progress over the next week or so!
We used rendering foam to cut out the shape (the V) and then cut out plaster board and stuck it to the foam (the L)
We then used the steel edging used by plasterers to make the edges nice and neat. These are stapled onto the plaster board
Last night we ‘bogged up’ the letters with base coast plaster.. once dried, we will sand them down, put the top coat of plaster on them, sand again, and then PAINT THEM!! 🙂
In case you’re wondering, Fiance is NOT a plasterer LOL but he is very handy! Total cost so far is $100… we’ve put quite a few hours into them but they are going to be top quality! We might even hire them out for super cheap and make a little cash on the side! 🙂
I’m now totally addiced to DIY and looking for my next project!

Can’t wait to see the finished product.

MsPups: You should be able to recoup your costs and more renting them out. They would also be e great base for a sweetheart or head table (the table would require real supports hidden by the letters).

This is awesome! Man….I wish we could do this. Getting married in VA…. “Virginia is for Lovers” and giant Love signs are set up in certain places! Y’all are so crafty!

Very nice! Such a good idea to rent them out, too! I can’t wait to see how this looks at your wedding.

Am I the only one that read this in my mind as, “do-it-yourself love making”? LOL
More on topic…the letters look really great! You’re so talented!

Love the letters, they’re beautiful so far and I can’t wait to see how you finish them.
One question–are they heavy?
crackktheskyy: Nope, I read the same thing hehehe.

julies1949: that’s what we’re hoping! We might paint them silver or gold for the wedding.. still working it out
crackktheskyy: hahaha I was being a bit cheeky!
MissMarple: because they have foam inside they are not that heavy. We needed them to be quite solid though, so they don’t topple over
Thanks guys for your kind words! Working on them again this weekend so will post more pics then! 🙂
