I did my own make up and had a friend do my hair and it turned out great! I was a little nervous because i’m no pro but I got a lot of compliments on my look! Go for it!

I would not necessarily do it to save money – I’m doing my own makeup because I’m pretty sure I’m not going to like whatever a makeup artist will do to my face (I want to look like me still!), but will pay a hairdresser to do an updo for me because I know that’s something I could not do better at.

I’m sure I could pay a makeup artist less than what I’m spending on all the new makeup I’m buying, but on the other hand I know I’ll eventually use all the makeup up.  So it depends on how you look at it.

For previous weddings, I’ve had my hair and make up done and I didn’t like the results. I would rather just do it myself. On top of that, I love make up so I would rather use my skills than pay someone to do it.

I did my little sister’s make up for her wedding and she loved it. I even convinced her to put on blush and she hates blush!

My brother just got married in the Dominican a few weeks ago. I was a bridesmaid and we all did our own makeup and one of the girls did all of our hair. It actually turned out a lot better than I was expecting. I was going to go all out and get hair and make up for my girls but I think we’re just going to do it ourselves now.

I love wearing makeup and have a good collection of it but I’m still planning to hire someone to do mine. I’m hopeless at hair so that wasn’t even a question. For the makeup at least, I think the question is what kind of makeup do you already have. Certain products don’t photograph as well or might need to be reapplied more often than you’ll remember/want to during all the excitement of the day. If you end up needing to buy a lot new products it might be the same a just hiring someone. I would do a trial of your diy look and take some pictures at various time points to see how it holds up and looks in photos. If you’re happy with that then go for it!

I am going to be doing my own makeup for the big day and considering doing my own hair, as well. While I’m no pro at doing makeup or anything.. I am more comfortable doing my own.

The only part about this is that I’m kind of bummed that I won’t get to experience any of the pampering that entails with getting ready before the ceremony. I wanted to have someone do my hair just for this reason, since I’ve done so much for this wedding, a ton of DIY projects, and a lot of money spent, I just wanted a day to relax and enjoy myself.  I’m just nervous if I don’t do my hair, it won’t turn out the way I want! Haha

I think that if you have the money to spend to get your hair and makeup done and you find someone you really like, then go for it. But since you’ve been doing your makeup, I think that you’ll like the results and if you dont, the good thing is you can start over (if times allows :P) and not worry about wasting money on something you’re not sure you like.

I did all my own hair and make up. We kind of eloped and had a small party so I didn’t really have a choice. I was happy to do my own make up because I am good at it, but I would have liked someone to put my hair up for me! I wore it down with a few curls created with hair straighteners, it looked good but could have probably been better, oh well.

I’m going to be doing my own hair and makeup too!  Since I’m getting married on the opposite coast, I don’t have time to find someone I trust to make me look great. I’m going to do something simple with my hair since my Fiance likes it down and I’m planning on going to Sephora and getting a makeover/tips.  I wear a minimal amount of makeup daily and I know that I’ll need more makeup on the big day for all the photos.  I think you have to spend $50 in merchandise to get the makeover but anything I buy will be something I can use again.  And who doesn’t like new makeup to play with anyway : )

@Quicksand:  The first time I got married I had my hair professionally done. I was so unhappy with it! I ended up washing and restyling it real quick before the wedding. Granted, I have wavy/curly hair and apparently I happened to get someone who just didn’t know how to work with my hair. I think it will all depend on how finicky your hair is, and how elaborate a hair style you are planning on.

That is up to you. I personally would have no problem doing my own makeup, but I would definitely want help with hair. I want a pretty updo, and am not talented enough to create the look I want. Luckily, my best friend does hair and makeup for a living, so she will be doing mine!

I did my make up for my engagement party, which was sort of my trial. It lasted all night and photographed well, so I will be doing it for the wedding. I was surprised how well it turned out actually.

The only thing I want to change is adding some blush, and maybe some more eyeshadow/mascara, just something to add a little more oomph. I did have to go and spend a bit on make up though, all I really had was eyeliner and mascara, so I had to get primer, concealer, foundation and powder. I had a few pimples too, but they were covered up well and you can’t see them at all in the photos! I was kind of nervous, but yeah, i’ll do it for the wedding.

I saw your update, but to any other brides planning on this, make sure you give yourself a tonne of time. I was almost late to our engagement party, because apparently I was the only person in the house who could curl hair, so I had to help my sister with that, and then I had to do my make up, get pics and pretty much run to the venue lol.

I don’t wear makeup so I won’t be doing any of that for our wedding. I will be doing my own hair though! I won’t be doing a really complex hairdo so I think it will turn out great. I’ve done my hair for other events, and I never had problems.

I plan to do my own makeup, while my Future Sister-In-Law is doing my hair as a wedding present. 🙂
