I’m doing my own makeup as well. Your plan is exactly the same as mine, go to MAC have them teach me and buy all necessary products. I think the key is just practice, practice, practice.

I went to Sephora for my foundation, lipstick and mascara, but I used products for everything else that I was comfortable with and knew would work well for my skin. For example, Sephora’s old eye primer lasts forever with my skin type, and so do Cargo’s eyeshadows. I would ask for samples of everything because it’s sometimes surprising what works well with each person’s skin type.

For example, even though everyone loves Mac, I’ve never had great success with any of their products. Don’t buy anything the first round and make sure it works well for you!

@LissaBabyxo: I went to Mac, and I was so not impressed. The artist was very unprofessional, and he had HORRIBLE breath. I went to the Lancome/Clinique counters, asked for tips, and they pointed me in the right direction.

I did my own mainly because I already liked how I did my own makeup and used products that I knew stayed.  The only thing I did was research lasting foundation that was good for pictures.  I ended up with Makeup Forever HD (love it!).  If you normally do your own and are happy with it, stick with that.  Just because it’s MAC doesn’t mean you’ll like it better.

I did my own for my engagement photos and actually think I looked better than I do in pictures with professional make-up.  Maybe it would be fun to buy some nice make-up with the money saved from not getting it done, or taking a make-up class?

After After having 2 failed make up trials I decided to do my own. I went to Sephora, Macy’s and CVS a few times trying different products and “played” make up until I was happy with the result. I used Revlon Colorstay foundation, Urban Decay setting spray, Sheisedo powder and mascara, Smashbox eyeshadow, Stila eye pencil, Nars blush and Clinique the day of my wedding. I was pleased on the results and how long they lasted.

Whoa!!! That’s a BIG picture!!!

I did my own makeup for my wedding. I looked at a lot of YouTube videos and I would look at a lot of reviews for different products to see how good they would be to use. Ultimately I kind of took different things from my search results and put it all together to fit me. I don’t wear a lot of makeup on a day to day bases so I felt I wouldn’t look like me if I wore a lot on my wedding day (I don’t wear foundation at all so I didn’t feel the need to use it on my wedding day) and I wanted a real natural “Me” look. There was a lot of playing with makeup/doing my own make up trials and a lot of picture taking involved lol.
