I made all the napkins for a friend’s rehearsal dinner. I honestly can’t remember how long it took, because I just did about an hour of sewing each evening after work, but it was no big deal.

I would however suggest that you rethink your size. 12″ square is a pretty skimpy size for a dinner napkin.

Good idea. Try them out on your lap and see if you think they would offer enough protection for dressy clothes.

By the way, what is the reason you decided to make your own? If it is because you can’t find the color or pattern you want, I understand.

If is is to save money, there are often other choices.

I bought 120 napkins for a retirement dinner at the dollar store for 25cents each. They had to search the whole chain to get me enough of the same color but they were happy to do it.

With that much help, it shouldn’t be a problem, but I’d cut fabric when you can to ease the burden on your helpers.  Depending on formality level and fabric, you could try what I did for mine – pinking shears.  That would eliminate the need for sewing.  Or try a fusible hem tape – that would make just one step with the ironing/hemming.  I was cutting 150 napkins plus table cloths days before my first wedding with a bridesmaid, and let’s just say it was a big job for just 2 people.  But you’ve got helpers and time on your hands!  Good luck!

@RizNat: I just cut my napkins this weekend at 13 1/2″ each so that they will be approx 12 x 12 and it took me about 2 1/2 hours to cut 135 alone.  I would cut them first and work on what you can until you have help.  My aunt is doing all my sewing in 2 weeks so no I am working on ironing them all.

Good luck!!
