There was just a thread about how to make these, I will go find it for you.  They are easy from what I have read.  ModPog, sting and a balloon is how I have seen them done.

I would say paper mache over something round, like balloons, and then you pop the balloon and you’re left with the shell! I love them, very different!

I made rainbow ones with wool with my class. If 5 year olds can do it, I know you can! My only suggestion is that before you start, hang up a line/string either outside, in a garage or over the bathtub to dry them. Hang to dry with a clothespeg.

@mrsaponte: Haha! Mine didn’t make anything for my wedding, but sometimes their crafts and paintings are SO cute that I want to eat it up. You could always get them to make them and make it educational. Hmm… Fine motor to wrap the string, sequence of events, thinking and inquiry as well as the design process to wrap it the way they want, following instructions with precision… colour recognition perhaps if they have to chose the right coloured string? Maybe measurement if you get them to cut the right length? Teamwork if they have a friend help them? (Can you tell I’m working on reports hehe)
