@BeckyS0:  1/2″ will certainly be thin BUT if you’re doing it mainly for aesthetic purposes, then this is the perfect place to save money. Plus, think about how much time your guests are going to be spending sitting on a bench.. hopefully it won’t be for the whole event!

It’s really nice of you to think of your guests but you I would consider saving money here and put that money somewhere else.. like a chcolate fountain or something that everyone would enjoy!

@BeckyS0:  Honestly 1/2″ isn’t going to cover it. I covered my wooden bottom chairs in 2″ foam and one layer of 1″ batting and another layer of 1/4′ batting and they are still uncomfortable after a couple of hours. I used this:

on these type of chairs:

I definetly cant sit at the computer with it!

I think you really need the 2″ foam for comfort and even then they aren’t great.

As to the color canyou volunteer to paint the tables a better more neutral color at your own cost? I have rarely seen a venue turn down a good deal like that. Paint is pretty cheap.

Another option would be haybales and sawhorse tables or rent tables and chairs. I hate even saying that as it is so expensive! I have spent hours sitting on haybales and they are much more comfy than picnic those picnic benches. 🙁

I would definitely ask. Who would turn down a professional paint job being done for free? Really the worst they could say is no. It still would be much cheaper than making all those cushions. Please let me know how it turns out!
