I think there are so many how-to videos on making bouquets you really can’t go wrong. I am buying mine from Sam’s club and then making them the night before and refrigerating. Flowers are OUTRAGEOUS! I have done my own silk in the past and they turned out great. I am excited to work with real!

Go girl! Can’t wait to see pics!

You can do it and it will be easier than you think.

I did wedding bouquets for two of my sisters when they got married. I didn’t have a pattern or any experience working with flowers. I just put them together in what I thought made a pretty setting and they turned out really well. They definitely looked better than the “professional” ones I had done for my first marriage.

@Mrs. Myrtle Beach:  Any chance you’d care to share which how to videos you are using? My plan is to order from Sam’s Club, too 🙂

I am going to DIY my flowers I am going to purchasevthe from the local grocery store.  I think it is totally do able.  I also think $600 for flowers is way too much for me also.

i am taking the day before my wedding off just so i too can DIY my flowers (and because i don’t think i would be able to function at work the day before).

what is the best way to store them overnight? would they be ok just sitting in an airconditioned room or do they really have to be refrigerated?

We are considering this. I plan on using calla lily’s all around and it can’t be that hard to shove a bunch of them together, even out the ends, wrap it with floral tape and then wrap it with more ribbon!

@jpindtla:  Honestly? I plan to go to a rentacenter and rent a fridge for my garage to store them. I am taking Friday before our Saturday wedding to do this too! Smile

Absolutely do them yourself. I loved going to the wholesalers to pick them, and back to collect them, even if it was at 6.30 am! I guess storage depends on your climate. If you get them fromwholesaler they’re a lot fresher than if you buy them from grocery store, and bear that in mind- roses, for example will need a day or two to open out fully. Which of course means you can easily collect flowers Wednesday morning, arrange Wednesday afternoon and refrigerate until Saturday. Honestly. Just keep an eye on them and if anything looks underripe say on the Friday, put them somewhere just cool rather than cold and put some sugar in the water.

I used white and pale pink peonies with some lisianthus for my bouquet and I’d say it cost me about €20 ($25?) instead of the €60 the florist was quoting for it.

Go for it!

ETA The best bit about going to the wholesalers in person to order flowers – say a few weeks before wedding- is that you will have the benefit of their knowledge and advice on storage, ripening etc. It was where I discovered that I didn’t need to collect them on the Friday etc.
