After some research, my Maid/Matron of Honor and I just came up with this plan to make a set of luminaries to display on a ledge at our rehearsal dinner. We are having a low key pizza parlor style evening, so these work really well – didn’t hurt that I owned all the materials needed!
These are by no means a ‘high class’ project, but I love the way mine turned out!
Brown Paper Sacks (Lunch Sized)
Printed Letters (see below)
Pencil and Ball Point Pen
Select any simple font online or within MS Word. Mine were made using the free front ‘Cheri’ from http://www.dafont.com
Print out (on regular paper) the letters you want to use
Cut a rectangle around each letter for easy placement
On the back side of each letter, use your pencil to scribble along the edge of the letter. You are going to use these are tracing papers.
Place the pencil side on the front of your brown paper bag. Use the pen to trace the outline of the letter, which should lightly transfer the design onto the bag.
Place a strip of cardboard inside the bag so you only cut through the one side/layer.
Using the knife, cut out each letter on your bags.
Cut another rectangle shape larger than the size of your letter from the wax paper.
Tape the wax paper inside the bag to create an opague window where the letter shape has been removed.
Use battery operated tealights inside to give them light!
Here are my results!
