I’m planning on making pomanders for my flowergirls similar to this:
However, I’m not sure of two things:
1) How big should the pomander be? I’ve mostly seen them be about 6-inches, is this a good size for 8/9/10 year old girls?
2) Approx. how many flowers should I use? I want to use these pink peonies from save-on-crafts. They have quite a large head but I want the pomander to look pretty full.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice you ladies can offer!

I love peonies and think these are beautiful! I plan to make these as well… but I have seen a 4″ pomander and with the size of the peonies I think that may work better? As for the number of flowers… i have seen many DIY guides that recommend 12 or so per pomander, but it really varies on the size of the flower.
I guess I am no help at all! 🙂

No you were helpful!! I was really not sure of the size and such, but I think 4″ would be better than a 6″ ball espcially for little girls.
I suppose I’m won’t be sure how many flowers to use until I make them. I’ll be sure to post a DIY tutorial once I’m done with this project.

That would be great! I would love to see your project once completed!

i think most of the pomanders i’ve seen were made with 4-5in styrofoam balls… the flowers add a good 2 or 3 inches to the size 🙂

missjyc; Thanks! Thats a good point that the flowers do add to the size, I hadn’t considered that!
Now I’m trying to find some nice strands of pearls but have found mostly real pearls or loose faux pearls, but no faux strands!
Nevermind – found plenty of pearls on Amazon in a wide variety of colors and size…too much variety!!!

I used a 5 inch styrofoam ball and it turned out humongus! Here’s a pic (sorry to tell the size, but you can see it in comparison to my thermostat, lol). Those peonies are beautiful!

I think the 4″ is definitely the better choice. Peonies are so big and this will be gorgeous. Believe it or not Walmart has strands of Faux Pearls at extremely reasonable prices. They are in the craft section.
