- Wedding: September 2013
Sooooo since we’ve been engaged I have been frantically pinning things on Pinterest (http://pinterest.com/loveemelissa/) and found these beauties:
PRICE! $800! Ouch!
My Fiance has been pretty freakin’ great thus far about giving me the wedding that I have always dreamed of (OK, we’re paying for it ourselves, so its been a toned down version, but still) but I think he’d draw the line at $800 shoes.
Since I found those babies I have found Weddingbee and the DIY board. Lots of bees have been making their own beautiful wedding shoes. I have already made some flats (http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/my-diy-flats-pictures) so I was ready to take on another project.
I searched for the perfect heel to ‘strass’.
I am already about 5″7 and my Fiance is around 5″10 so I couldn’t go too high. That and I would be terrified of this:
I suck at wearing heels. I wear scrubs and runners daily for work, and rarely, rarely wear heels. I was quite content to wear flats on the big day, but my photographer has said that the pictures will look better if I wear heels.
So I found these at Spring for like $20.
I cut the bow off the toe and painted those puppies white. I had read on a previous bee’s DIY thread that you want the shoe to be a similar colour to what you’re strassing onto them.
Then I started gluing shiny things onto the now-white coloured shoe.
I used E6000 and let me tell you. That stuff STINKS.
I recommend one of these:
I don’t have one so I’ve been opening the window and taking frequent breaks. Even then the E6000 makes me have a killer headache and also makes me feel sick to my stomach.
I’m not NEARLY done my shoes yet, but I really wanted to get some pictures out because this work is TEDIOUS and I need some encouragement.
So here we go:
(excuse the mess/lack of walls, we’re renovating!)
And a close-up:
I have not even finished 1/2 of the first shoe but I’m planning on doing crystals only on the heel, the mix of pearls, crystals and sequins for the shoe’s body and a glitter + modge podge sole.
Thoughts/Comments/Feedback would all be greatly appreciated!
