I think the Oak Barrel Bar is adorable…and they tend to be easier to use at all even heights rather than hay bales, which can differ slightly in size/make-up, and sometimes have uneven tops (worked on a farm, and when it came to stacking hay, they are a LOT less uniform than they look…pain in the butt!)…and that way nobody in a shorter dress waiting for a drink or getting a drink from the bar gets poked in the legs with hay!! πŸ™‚

FYI – if you go to some vineyards, and explain the use for the barrels, so they know they will not be damaged/changed, they may let you rent/borrow for cheaper.

I am an event planner and have used the barrels before, and we borrowed 6 for an event from a vineyard down the road…for about $25 each!

@MissHydrant:  Good to know they can be borrowed or rented for cheap!

I grew up on a farm, and I like the hay stacks better but I do understand that they are not even, so putting glasses full of drinks can topple over, and the bare legs being poked with hay! I miss the farm though… sigh!

Aww I hope you’re able to rent the wine barrels, I love them!! Super jealous too, I tried to rent them but there’s not a lot of vineyards in my area so the only place I found to rent them from charges $100/barrel. Ouch!

I like the barrels, but the hay sounds nice too- the only thing with that is that 6 ft is WAY too high for a bar because people have to be able to see over it/reach the top, so you would probably be better off with 12ft x 4ft…
