- Wedding: June 2012
I used to post under this name: http://boards.weddingbee.com/profile/jamie42003
I promised someone I would post about how my sams club flowers went.
Well here it is.
I hope this helps some people.
400 white roses arrived on my doorstep Thrusday may 31 2 days before my June 2, 2012 wedding. They arrived at around 9 am, and I got to work right away. These flowers cost me around $352.00 delivered. They came in two seperate (200 in each box) boxes that looked like this:
So the first thing I did was take them out of the box remove the wrapping around them. I bought “storage tubs” ahead of time, and these are what I put the flowers in. Then I used a pruning tool to cut the end off and stick them in the water. (My mother informed me the next day that you’re supposed to cut the flowers under water, and then put them in water immediately. She helped me re-cut them the proper way the next day. Yeah I’m a complete ammature. The pruning tool I bought at Wal-mart pictured below. I bought two of them, but I think I could have used three or four because they dull quickly. They were only like 3 bucks a piece if I remember correctly.
Now you’re supposed to store your flowers in a fridge alone, but hello? Who has room for that? So, what I did was store these bad boys in my bathroom, and turned the air conditioner down to sixty degrees.. be prepared for some backlash if you do this though. I got shit the rest of the weekend for our house being so cold. M^more photos of the flowers in my bathroom in buckets Some of the flowers came with icky brown edges…this is a easy fix because you can just “pluck them” I also wanted to mention that the first box of flowers can without thorns, but the second box came with throns. The best thing to do is just cut them off. I ended up with some scraps and scraches on my hands. I had also stupidly got a mani the night before, and it was ruined by the flowers…I also suggest having help when doing this or you’ll look like me…… I think that all the work paid off, because people ranted and raved about the flowers at my wedding. I had enough for four bouquets, 6 boutineers, like 15 center pieces, 7 vases at the church, vases at the bar, the kings table decor, and much more.
I have to say my reception site was kind of a dump…(I paid $225 for two days of use) as it is a local community center. I think that the decorater company I hired and the flowers turned the place from a dump to something amazing….. here are some pics..keep in mind the day off candles were lit, twinkle lights were on, and the lanterns were on…. I don’t have any pictures of my bouquets as my pro pictures aren’t back yet. I made my bridesmaids make their own bouquets. They thought it was fun. I learned how to do this by watching this video…http://video.about.com/weddings/Make-a-Wedding-Bouquet.htm
Some advice I would give:
Gloves! Gardening gloves wear them. Would have saved me a mani.
Make sure you have some help on the day they arrive. I did it on my own and it took me like 4 hours. The next day I had my mom and my sister help me re cut them and it took like an hour and a half.
I had to have my Darling Husband run to the grocery store for more flower food. They do not give you enough.
Pick out the brown petals right away. When I first took the flowers out of the box I thought the brown petals would revive themselves. It would have been quicker to pick them right away instead of going back again and picking them.
Put the best looking flowers aside in seperate vases right away with flower food. These flowers will look even more amazing in two days and use these ones for your bouquets.
Don’t be afraid to do it! The flowers were awesome, and you don’t have to be a pro to work with them. My DH’s best man asked me “where did you learn to do flowers?” I said “I just make it up as I go along!”
The last thing is I wish I would have ordered them one day before I did, because I noticed the day after they were more beautiful than the day.
PM me if you have any questions!
