I have been thinking about this too, and I think it is totally doable. Obviously, it depends on the type of sash, but paying $200 for a piece of ribbon with some jewels on it…that just seems outrageous.

I have also been scouring Etsy. I love the ones with the flower on therm. Hope I can find something cute/reasonably priced…or I will have to learn to sew!

Most dressmaking shops carry jewelled appliques that you can attach to a ribbon of your choice. You could also get fabric flowers from a shop that sells millinery supplies or from an Etsy seller.

Has anyone completed a diy sash?

I just had my first dress fitting and the seamstress said I could not use the ribbon I bought for my sash. The one I bought is just a satin ribbon and would pucker/turn/stick out (something not good) on the sides of my dress.  I’m not sure if this is because I’m attaching the ribbon to the back of the dress to not cover up the buttons or if there’s another reason (dress material?).

The store showed me a very thick ribbon/sash, possibly 2 layers and said I needed that. I’m trying to figure out how to buy the correct material for this and I haven’t found a concrete name. Anyone have ideas?

The sash material I have looks like the one in the picture, but the one in the picture is sitting just fine on the sides.

AHHHH I did half of it I am going to do the rest tonight. So far it’s gone really good.

I will say that mine was easy because I am just adding the appliqués.

I am using the following appliqués. The ones with the rhinestone will go in front and the one with the less Bling will go around back. What I am debating is if I should add the on in the back?????

So it would go all around and tie at the back. What do you all think? should I have it go around?

Here is my dress and the appliqués I am using. It is the same one I tried on at the bridal store but without the $300 price tag. The appliqués with the rhinestone (1st pic) was 3/5 of a yard at $57 and other one (second pic) was 1/2 a yard at $23.

@RVG1010:  awesome! It really does amazing things for your dress!

So are you attaching hook & eye closures or sewing them to a ribbon?

I saw this trim but was a little scared of what it would be like in real life…

it looks awesome and shiny!

I sewed it to ivory ribbon.
