Hello Bee’s! With just 10 days till the wedding, I finally banged out my cake topper.
I started out with these grand plans of making a little kitten and robot cake topper. Kitten and robot you say? Well, just a bit of back story. When my Fiance and I first met, i was doodling a little web comic about a kitten, turtle and panda that were all friends. When I met Mr. Vandykins, i wrote him into the comic as a love interest for the kitten. Here’s an example!
I started making the robot first and I did a pretty good job, but it was really big. Too big to go on our mini cake. Plus when I started the kitten, i got overwhlemed trying to be a perfectionist!
After the Fiance commented that he thought it was too big and wanted to scrap the whole cake topped idea, i decided to start from scratch and try and keep it simple.
Instead of a traditional cake, we’re doing cupcakes with a mini (giant cupcake) cake (which i’m SUPER excited about):
I was confirming our cupcake order when it it hit me!!! What I needed was a cherry on top!
And ta-da! My cute little cake topper was born!
10 Days to go!
I’m almost done everything but of course, i’m sure there’s going to be something i forget!
What about you bee’s?
Anyone down to the wire like me??

Love the cherries! What a perfect compliment to your cupcake cake too. It will be amazing (along with that beautiful cake display) at your wedding.
I am *hopefully* finishing my cake topper today.

OK–since you asked 🙂
I finished it last night. Obviously not a total DIY. I found the retro Barbie/Ken wedding ornaments on ebay for wicked cheap ($5) and the hair color/clothing matched. We’re both 60’s children, so the retro works for us.
I had to repaint Ken’s cumberbun and tie, and I added tiny little crystals and pearls to Barbie’s dress. I also blinged the bouquet. Made the little stand and hockey stick. My favorite is the little cat poking out of her dress. That’s definitely me.
