I’d definitely use a paper cutter for the squares (holding the paper flush against the top of the machine so that you cut a perfect 90 degree angle).  If you don’t own one you can take a few to Kinkos and use their equipment to see if it works for you.

You could also pay a company to cut the cardstock squares for you.  Companies like http://www.cutcardstock.com  will cut into any size for a fee, as will local printing companies, but it’s obviously cheaper to do yourself.
