So before I leave for my sis’ house tomorrow, I began working on some mossy letters/initials for our cake table or favor table..not sure yet where I want to put them. I am really, really sad right now due to the passing of my grandpa and had to do something. When I’m sad I always find something to do to make time pass. So I decided to take on one of my projects with a twist.
I went into JoAnn’s tonight (retail therapy and wedding idea therapy) and purchased the supplies. Went home and began doing a different styled version of the mossy letter/initials and found a shortcut idea that works pretty darn good!
I’ll finish up one letter later tonight after the spray glue dries, and I’ll begin after I return from her house and write the tutorial.
I have to say this..it so far (shortcut I found) is working great and it looks good.
Am I the only person that does DIY or design details when they need to take their minds off of something? My sister ironically, did the same thing today and began the finishing touches on her interior design blog she’s going to unveil soon!
So tonight I’m up late finishing up my first mossy letter initial (took on the letter “T” tonight) and although I’m missing grandpa like mad, feeling I accomplished a little and being able to fall head first into a project is really good therapy.

sorry to hear about your grandpa. I feel worse if I sit still and I need to go do something to take my mind off things.
Do you have piccies of your DIY creation? would love to see them!

hi bellenga, i am so so sorry about your grandfather’s passing. it was a year ago today that my grandfather passed away. i hope you’ll find some comfort in the coming days. i think it’s awesome that you’ve found a way to take your mind off the sadness, and are being productive in the process. good for you. i could take a lesson from you! 🙂
hope you’ll start feeling some peace and comfort very soon!

@Ccranetobe: I sure will get pics! I’m doing the first trial run on one of the two letters right now (taking a break to let the spray glue dry), but when I come back and begin on the second letter (“J”), I’ll take pics and write a tutorial. I’m using a sheet moss with a backing on it and its much easier to manage and less messy imho than the other tutorials I saw.
I’m really missing both of them right now.

I absolutely do that! I’m also a stress-cleaner. Fiance knows when I’m really stressed or upset because I bust out the full on crazy cleaning mode – scrubbing baseboards, cleaning really random stuff. It really does help!
I hope you’re doing well – I know it’s hard. I just lost my grandpa this past year as well, and it’s so painful. I cant imagine losing two grandparents so close to one another.

@MissPumpkinPenguin: Your’re so sweet and I’m sorry for your loss. Somehow I feel a quiet peace now, and it’s strange. I am usually quite talkative (some here know that well) and I’m just quiet. My fiance hasn’t heard this much silence since he’s known me. But it’s good to just get busy.
@Amandalynn: I’m so sorry for your loss also and I’m only a stress cleaner when I’m really really sad or stressed. I actually planned to begin vacuuming the entire house in the early morning before I go to my sis’ house tomorrow and have a whole morning and evening planned out for when we return (friday night and early saturday morning) cleaning up. I have a project (nwr) next week with my backyard (it’s going up for lease/sale and I cancelled my lease contract today so I can move into T’s house in June). Being busy is good. Very very good.

Am finally heading out soon. Finally. I know I know, half a day late.
But anyhow, I finished three prototypes on the flower girl wands I began a while back and finished 100 percent the letter “T” mossy initial (it rocks!).
The flower girl wands are wonderful! Love them! My son said “Mom you should sell these things. They are awesome!” I really think they’ll look amazing at the wedding and reception and that the little ones (I am going to now have more than 1 flower girl) will love to wave them in the beach breeze at the reception too! The idea was taken from Martha goddess of all things weddingey cool, and I totally modified the original idea. They look great!
So I sign off now for a while, with my fingers covered in dried hot glue. But I feel something. A teeny bit of accomplishment, and a thought that my grandma, who years ago jewelled our baton and dance costumes for my sister and I, would be proud.
