@LurkerBee:  I’m planning on making my own dress! Just ordered 25 yards of muslin so I have no excuse for an ill-fitting dress. I’m having a backyard wedding in August (in WI as well) so I definitely wanted it knee-length. I’m planning on combining a couple of different ideas: I like the Queen Anne collar from Vogue 8208 but I definitely want a full skirt possibly with a petticoat. I really like this version that was made of the pattern. I want to incoporate the back of Butterick 5601 if I can too.

@BackyardBee:  Wow, that’s quite a lot of muslin!  That thing is going to fit to a T.  😉

Good luck with your dress!

I’m kind of being unethical in the world of wedding dresses, but hey were all on a budget right! My mom and I went to a wedding show and I fell in love with a dress I saw in the fashion show. We found out that is a custom dress, and met with the designer and it is base $2600, quite out of my comfort zone for a one time wear. So my mom went to fashion design school and is going to make a version of the dress for me!!! so excited for this especially to be able to make any changes I want, no extra costs and I can see it any time I want! Hope it goes as well as I dream! I can’t wait to follow your progress, be sure to do photos and stages, keep us updated!

@LurkerBee:  sorry for the delay, I wish this would send you messages all the time. I’ve found my pattern. It’s a floor length tulle gown. The bodice I will be making from silk tartan to match Graeme’s kilt with a tulle overlay. I can’t wait to make muslin. I have loads of time…. Need to loose 2 stone first too… But I Ewan’s to see my vision there infront of me. I’m also makin my sisters bridesmaid dress and hopefully my mums dress too odd we can come up with something that she likes. I can’t wait I see everyone else’s dresses take shape.

@BackyardBee:  Im using McCalls 6466

Its a mix and match pattern so i will be using the long blue skirt with the pink bodice in an ivory tulle. just need to find enough tulle in the right shade! the skirt has 38 yards of tulle, then i will need another few yards of tulle for the bodice. Then Satin is going to be a whole other story =) i can’t wait!

I made my dress for my first wedding.  I’ve made 2 others for friends and helped with a third. I’m very undecided about making it this time. I know I can do it and it will come out nice, but not sure I want to dedicate the time to that right now.  Every time I go to the fabric store I see lace I like so that makes me want to see it.

i have plenty of time so I try going to mull it over. One problem is I  not sure what I want so its hard to Pam with no direction.

Dresses are fun to make so I encourage anyone with the talent and drive to try it.

My mum made hers!! That was like 50% of the reason she got married… It’s a Zandra Rhodes design and it’s crazy. After seeing/having worn it, it would honestly say making your own is the best idea ever!
