Anyone been surprised about who has actually given them some HELPFUL DIY advise?
On Friday I showed my Grandfather the cake stands were were working on. My mom and I had taken glass vases and had filled them with these clear crystals and these pink balls. We were planning on putting the cake plates on top of each level (for a staggered tier look). It really didnt’ look how I’d imagined. We’d run out of the clear crystals and because there were so many in each vase it looked super dense instead of sparkly and see-through. We were tossing around the idea of incorporating battery operated tea-lights inside.
Well my grandpa looked at it, and suggested we place an upside down glass inside of the vase (to put the tea light under) and then drop the remaining stones around the glass. Well not only did the glasses take up a bunch of the space in the vase (Resulting in less stones being used), but because there less densely packed through the vase, its MUCH clearer looking! You can’t see the glass at all! Win on all levels!
I’m going to post pics once I buy some flameless tea lights to stick in there, and when I get my cake plates 🙂

That sounds like a great idea! I think sometimes you look at it so long that you can’t see the big picture. Can’t wait to see a picture of the final product!

Exactly! I was so excited iwth the vision in my head, and when I put everything in the vase, I was just like “oh, well that doesn’t look how I expected”. Since it was one of my first DIY I started having fears that ALL my projects that looked so amazing in my head would end up epic flops.
And then Grandpa comes along and makes the small suggestion and it was fixed just like that! He’s even going to search for the cake plates for me 🙂

What a creative solution! Sometimes it helps to have someone “not so close” to the project help out!
