We have a lot of out door parties and BBQs, so I bought these colored light bulbs from Home Depot, about $5 each:
And used fixtures similar to these, about $6 each:
They were great for parties, but one night I used one of the lights to uplight the brick wall of our fireplace because my venue’s walls are exposed red brick and our main color is blue. It looked great! I’m thinkign about putting these fixtures in some sort of boxes to cover them up and put about 5 or so around the dance floor (the dance floor is in a corner).
I can visit the venue during business hours and measure the outlets to make sure I get the right amount of extension cords. It’s always a good idea to go with your strengths, and I’ve always done a lot of work with lighting and handyman jobs. The owner of the venue told us we can set up some stuff the day before if we would like as long as it isn’t being rented that day. It is unlikely to be rented the day before because it is a Thursday during off season. If we can’t set up the day before, I’ll draw out the way the cords should go and give the instructions to a friend or family member who I can trust to do the job and has experience with lighting.
The idea of being able to have some rich blue uplighting on the walls for such a good price really excites me. Our florist gave us a great deal by including set up and delivery for free and our caterer is setting up the rest. These lights, the isle runner, and our ceremony backdrop should be the only things we set up the day before, and we plan to go to the venue the day before anyway for the ceremony rehersal.
If I decide to go through with this, I’ll make sure to post the results 🙂
