I’ve always dreamed of wearing some aspect of my mom’s wedding day attire on my wedding day. I would love to wear her veil, however, she has a long cathedral veil with lace embroidery along the edges and I would like it to be elbow length. Do any of you bees have any tips on DIY veils? I really don’t want to have to take it to a seamstress.. 8/ …Thanks!

You would need to cut the top portion off to the desired length, round the cut corners, sew a gather stitch across the length of the cut (and re-secure the lace edge at the cut too), and then attach to a comb. You can pre-stitch along the lace before you cut to make sure nothing unravels too (or use a liquid anti-fray fabric glue).
Veils are not difficult –but I understand if you are nervous about cutting into it. Google diy veils and look at the patterns/suggestions. If you feel comfortable doing it, then go for it.
I am making my own veil. I’ve made them for others as well. I have no fear when it comes to cutting though 🙂

@Quicksand: I’m making my own veil as well. This link might help you since it has visuals.

I second the link from APW above–it’s what I used, and it was by far the easiest DIY I’ve done for my wedding.
