I bought a birdcage veil from etsy a while back–and it is super adorable–but I started to think I might like a more traditional, long veil with blusher for my wedding instead. So yesterday I went to the fabric store and bought tulle and comb! I’m pretty comfortable with sewing, but wondered if anyone has any DIY veil advice they can share before I get really into this. TIY!

I made my best friends veil for her. I started by reading up on it on a few websites. Unfortunately the site that I found the most helpful doesn’t appear to be up anymore. But after getting a general idea of how it’s done, I went to walmart and bought a pattern.
I didn’t follow the pattern exactly because she wanted her veil to be longer, but I was able to use it as a cutting guide. I just folded the tulle 4 ways, lined it up with the pattern and cut. To attach the comb, I folded in half along the width, not quite in the middle, so there would be two different lengths. I then decided how much gather I wanted and sewed it on from the outside edges of the comb in.
It’s pretty difficult to cut the edges cleanly, so I recommend adding some sort of detail to it. For hers, I used clear plastic thread and attached seed beads. Because the tulle was so fragile I had to weave the thread through by hand, so it took a very long time! You could also sew on a ribbon, which I imagine would be easier and less time consuming.
Let me know if you have any questions…I’ll try my best to help .
