We were going to make our own but the fiance thinks it will be too much of a hassle (and we can’t afford to buy one). We are now considering a dessert table instead but I just wanted to get some opinions from ladies that have tried to make wedding cakes, how hard/time consuming is it?
Also, I am wearing an ivory dress (Davids Bridal t9612) and my fiance would like to wear a white fitted jacket with a white shirt and white pants (no tie or vest because of weather). Will this clash? Or more specifically, does anyone have pics of anything like this?

My son was going to make our cake, but I talked him out of it because I don’t really think that he will have time to make it, and it will be a lot of added stress. We decided to pay someone to make us one. He was going to order supplies from http://www.weddingfads.com/weddingcakes-1.aspx. They have complete kits and instructions. It really doesn’t look like it would be that hard to do. Just making the time to make the cake and decorate it would be the issue. You could always order a kit and time yourself, and then make your decision.
As for your FI’s wedding attire, I personally would have him choose another color; possible ivory to match your dress. Most of the time, if you put ivory next to white, the ivory will look dirty.
