Hi bees! So I’ve decided to do my own wedding makeup, but there’s a problem. I haven’t had a lot of makeup experience. The only makeup I wear is a little eyeliner (pencil on lower and upper lash lines) and eyeshadow (light shimmery shades in the inside corners, darker shades in the creases), sometimes some coverup. So I’m not really sure where to start when it comes to wedding makeup. I’d like a pretty natural look for the wedding and I have a pretty small budget so I would probably purchase the makeup at Target or Walmart. What kind of foundation should I use? Does anybody have any product recommendations or inspiration pictures I could use? I’d appreciate any help you could give! 🙂

@SarahL13: I’m doing my own make-up (I normally don’t wear anything) and so far I’ve tried a bb cream from bobbi brown and mineral foundation from bare minerals that I really like. I’m also going to be wearing false lashes. Here’s a pic from my boudoir shoot (I’ll be wearing the same thing, but with foundation/bb cream on my wedding day).

I think youtube is your best bet. There are a ton of tutorials out there for bridal/day time/no makeup make up. At least then you can pick a tutorial you like and follow it to a “T” or you can leave/add things in as you please.
On most youtube tutorials they’ll tell you the products they used. Then from there if they are “high end” you can do a dupe search for similar colors/finishes.
There are ton’s of “drugstore” dupes for higher end department store make up. Theres so much information about that, again, on youtube, and theres even more in the millions of make up blogs out there!
Editied to add: Also, before you buy anything, check out some reviews on it.

It sounds like we are in pretty similar situations. I had no idea where to start either. I ended up going to the Body Shop. I went in and described what I was looking for and the associate did a full wedding make-up look on me right there in the store that I loved! She was really helpful about explaining why she used the colours and products she did and how to go about applying them myself and what brushes I would need. I ended up hitting a great sale there a week later and got every thing I needed at 60%. I would suggest seeing if there is a reputable cosmetics store in your area that might do the same for you. Then you can decide what you need/want to buy and where to buy it.

Defintely use YouTube and Make Up Alley for reviews. I tend to use make up from Sephora but I do keep up with the drug store brands too. There’s a great blogger (Nouveau Cheap) who mostly reviews drug store make up.
I’ve heard great things about Revlon Photo Ready, Maybelline’s Falsies mascara line (this was the brand a make up artist actually used on us for my friend’s wedding), Nyx eyeshadows (I hear the Nyx brand is at some Targets). No idea for blushes because I absolutely love Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blush ($26 each but one pan will last over 1.5 years even for somebody who loves to cake on blush like me). I am using a Nyx lipstick on Doll for my own wedding.
For very light coverage, I use L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream on a daily basis. It has very, very light coverage though but luckily, I don’t need much. I think it has actually improved my skin. It doesn’t last all day though.
Edit: I am also doing DIY make up and I practice almost every Saturday to get the look I want. Definitely get some practice before the big day. This is coming from a big ol’ make up lover too.
