Just curious what people paid for a DJ for their wedding. We met with someone yesterday and he seemed great but he quoted us at $1600 for the reception and $250 for the ceremony. I think that’s on the high side but wanted to compare with what other people paid. Thanks!

Depends on your area. Mine is 700 for cocktail hour and reception but I’ve see DJs easily run to 3000 for the reception. If you are in a city, costs will most likely be higher.

I think that sounds really high but it may depend on the area you live in. Where I live the average is $500-$600 for bother ceremony and reception together. I lucked up and found an awesome DJ for $350-$400 depending on how long my reception is. 🙂
I found mine through a friend who got married last year and he DJed for her. Check around with anyone you know who recently got married and had a DJ!

We live in Atlanta and have a friend who is a DJ, he told us that the industry standard here is $200/hour with minimum $ spent varying from DJ to DJ – so that would be about $800 for a 4 hour reception (not sure about additional cost for moving equipment if you’re needing them at two locations).
That said, the cheapest I was actually quoted for a 4 hour time block, no movement of equipment, was almost $1000 – I’ve also gotten quotes for over $2000 for the same perameters and our wedding is right in the city at an easily accesible venue. Atlanta (like a lot of cities) has a big music scene, so I think a lot of those DJs here charge a lot for little flares and whistles that typical people wouldn’t notice. Like previous posters said, I’m sure it varies depending on location so it might be helpful to check with people who live in your area :).

I’m in MA, and most DJs I found were $1500 and up. We found someone who did as low as $450, though. But you do run the risk of “you get what you pay for”.

We paid $1,600 for our DJ for the reception only. We had a string quartet for the ceremony and it was under $500 for that (can’t remember the exact cost).
Just wanted to say that the money we spent on our DJ was HANDS DOWN the best money we spent for our wedding. He was awesome at reading the crowd, understood our music tastes, and kept the party going for hours and hours! They had to kick us out of the venue! We had a conga line, I crowd-surfed in my wedding dress, shirts were off, ties were on heads, glasses were broken, people were twerking, I dropped into the splits… It was unreal how fun everything was. People are still telling us how amazing the night was! I think the DJ really contributed to all of it!
We are in Calgary, Alberta in Canada.

I am in Indianapolis, but I am paying $650 for 5 hours. I think this is an average price for this area because I got a few quotes before choosing.
