I think that’s SUPER high. We had our DJ there for 6 hours, had a ceremony and reception set up and he only charged us $750, and he is a DJ for local radio stations as well, high demand guy! We were happy with him and incredibly happy with the price as it was $200 less than the next lowest price.

I would check weddingwire for Local DJ’s with good reviews. That is what we did. We found a local DJ with a basic package for just under $1000 for 6 hours. We did our own music for the ceremony with an iphone and speakers. We are in IL in a suburb of Chicago, and if we had gotten married in Chicago, it would have been more. The DJ we found runs the business out of his home, so we saved on overhead. He had excellent equipment, years of experience and was nearby. This was also the best price we found from a legit professional. We were going to have our friend who is a DJ (but not wedding) do iur wedding, but then she wanted us to burn CD’s and didn’t have the equipment she siad she would have so we had to find someone else less than a month before the wedding.

Our DJ for our August 2015 wedding was $600 including cocktail hour and 4 hour reception. He also included a lighting package. He was AWESOME! He had the whole wedding pumped up and dancing. We did tip him $120 because he was phenomenal!

Our budget is $1500 for dj and sure enough the ones we have met up are around that. I don’t want a band at all. And for me, the dj is on the top of quality list!
We are in Colorado and getting married in the mountains so the rate is covering the travel from Denver (2 hrs away).
