So my fiance and I have been going back and forth concerning music for a while now… We are having a morning ceremony and a brunch reception. We know for sure that we want a string duo during our ceremony, but we have NO idea what to do with our reception. I’ve heard people say that it’s not a wedding without a DJ. Some say that a jazz quartet is super classy, but kind of boring. And yet even others say that they didn’t need to hire anyone to have a good time dancing. And should we even dance at a brunch reception?
As you can see, I’m a little lost here. So, my question is: should we just go ahead and hire a DJ, should we hire a jazz quartet, or should we just go with a simple Spotify/IPad music list and leave it there?
Thank y’all so much!

I guess it would depend on what “Feel” you were going for. A quartet is super classy, but if your guests and you would rather dance to Top 40 music, it wouldn’t fit the guests.
We went with a DJ because he can and will play anything we ask him to, He is doing Music before ceremony, Ceremony Music, Cocktail Hour “Rat Pack”, and we are kind of giving him free rain (with guidelines) for the dancing part… It was a no brainer for us…
Best of Luck!

IMO if you are expecting dancing, I would hire a DJ. If you just want some background music an ipad is fine.
We didn’t have dancing at our wedding. We hired musicians for our ceremony, but during reception we played some jazzy music from a spotify list. It was perfect for us.

Really depends on how you want it to go. I don’t think you’ll have a huge party atmosphere at brunch time, but you know your guests.
We went for the iPod because we had a small wedding, and it just didn’t make sense to hire a DJ. Also, if the dance had totally flopped, that would have been ok with us. We had a ton of fun putting together our playlist, and a lot of people danced. It went way better than I could have imagined.

I agree with mahi – if you want dancing, do the DJ. If you want more mingling, do the ipad. Personally, for a brunch reception I would just do the ipad and save the cash. People are not very likely to dance, and a jazz quartet seems overkill (imo!) since youre already having the string duo for the ceremony.
