Were meeting with a DJ tomorrow and he quoted us $1500 for approx 7 hours of DJ’ing. Does this seem right for our area (so cal)..we got a quote from another DJ who quoted us $1700 for 4 hours + $300 addtl hour and I was flabbergasted! Thats how much my doctors make at my hospital! Jeez.

Sounds right mine is 1300 but i knocked him down to 1000.00.When i was quoted by other people i got 1000-2500 quotes
I have him for 8 hours.
Seems like anything wedding related in california is just crazy expensive!!! Good Luck!

@FaceReality: Do you have any recommendations? DJs are just not something I have any interest in..

We met with 3, they ranged from 1200-1700 for 4 hours. We ended up going with the 1200 one haggling him down to 1k. We liked him the best personality wise, the lower price was just icing on the cake.

@yellowshoe: same for us! Got about the same average!
We got ours down to $1240 for 4hrs + Uplighting =) but then again we are getting married in December.

I want to say mine, Essence Entertainment, was about $1500. Regardless, I do not recommend them. It mightve just been the particular DJ (Its a company with a lot of DJs/Bands), but it was awful.

HEY MsNarwhal– Your 1500 sounds about right and to be honest very low. My DJ Company is 1295 for 4 hours and 200 for each additional hour. My Wedding is 7 hours too so my total is 1895 but I went with a very reputable company. They’re one of highest rated companies in So Cal so I am willing to pay a little extra. Plus they are really always at my beck and call. Always in the office to answer a call and the email responsiveness is really incredible. I would give them a call! Anyway, hope you find your perfect DJ!

I’m in Southern California and my DJ is 1500 for 4 hours, 140 per 30 min afterwards if needed. I added the lighting kit. So we are paying 2000. Scott Topper Productions, he’s out of Santa Barbara but DJ’s everywhere. His resume is impressive (alot of celebrities and big bashes) but he came recommended by a very good friend. he’s been great to work with 🙂
Edited for typos LOL.

We are paying $825 for our DJ for 6 hours, including a second setup for the ceremony and wireless mics. I think his package with uplighting was around $1000. He offers discounts for certain professions and he was running a yelp special, so that’s how we got such a good price. Most DJ’s we looked at were around 1000-1500 for 6 hours.
