I live in CT and the median price for DJs are usually $700.
I’ve been chatting with some highly rated local DJs, and was actually given us an opportunity to try them out. They did a great job, so I’d like to hire them. However, when I got their pricing, it seemed pretty high. Nonetheless, we’re getting a lot from them.
So I wanted to ask you guys: is this a reasonable quote?
$1,190 for 6 hours of service including 2 DJs, ceremony service, and up lighting package.
If this isn’t reasonable, would you ask them to cut something, or go with someone different?

@BeachBride2014: My DJ charges $1600 for reception and ceremony without any lighting, so $1,190 is a great deal, especially since they are doing both with lighting and you love their work!

We are paying 850 for one DJ, 7 hours, dance lighting.
But when we were shopping around the prices went from 600 to 3500. 1190 sounds reasonable.

I think it’s reasonable. We paid $1200 for four hours, and that didn’t include any lighting. Granted, that’s for one of the highest-rated DJs in our area, but…I still say that’s pretty reasonable for the amount of time and the products and services included.

Thank you guys for responding! You are making me feel much more certain about our decision!

@BeachBride2014: I’m in Westchester county, NY, and my DJ was $2000 AFTER I negotiated with him! That included the ceremony and reception from 4pm-11pm but no uplighting. Some DJ’s are just really in demand and can command that kind of pricing I guess. If you found one you love, and feel really good about, and its still workable with your budget, I say go for it.

The DJ’s in my area have been around 8 or 900 with 1 dj, no uplighting, and with nothing fancy. I found one at a bridal show the other day with 6 hours of play, and uplighting we are looking at about 800.00 to 1000.00 so I don’t think that is to bad.
Some of the ones I found wanted like 800 JUST for uplighting!

Thank you so much for your feedback! I think I’m going to book them!

@BeachBride2014 Mine is $1200, this includes ceremony, cocktail hour and reception until 1am. So basically 3:00-2am. It includes MC’ing, use of 3 wireless microphones, and a small light show.
I think yours sounds reasonable. and if you like them you should book them! Music is something everyone remembers at a wedding. Does that price include MC’ing? My package was originally $1600 but I got it for cheaper because I am in an ‘off season’., you are in May so where I live that is considered off season aswell, perhaps you could haggle a bit of a deal because of that?
