- Wedding: August 2011
Just a little background…I went to a friend’s wedding last year and loved her DJ because he was able to get everyone up and dancing and was professional, enthusiastic, and my friend had a wonderful experience with his team. The other main reason was because I needed a DJ who would have contemporary American dance music as well as Indian music and dhol experience since my fiance comes from an Indian family.
So now it’s time to plan my wedding, and I really want to hire him, but he’s quoting me a price that’s $550 more. He’s already quite expensive to start with and I just don’t want to pay more than I have to. My friend paid $1700 that included 6 hours of service, projector and screen, and dance floor lighting.
When I asked him about pricing, he told me that it would cost $1800 and an additional $450 for projector and screen. After I asked him why he was charging me so much more, he said it was because gas prices were much higher now and that my wedding weekend is a popular one. This doesn’t even make sense because my wedding is on a Sunday and higher gas prices does not equal $550 more in charges… Then he said he could charge me $1800 for his services and projector screen on the condition that he only provide the sound system for the reception and not ceremony and that I bring my own projector. All I need for the ceremony are speakers and mics…and since he’s going to be there anyway it doesn’t seem like it would take much extra effort to just provide speakers and mics.
This has been stressing me out unnecessarily and I just want to be done with negotiations….sorry for the long post but I just needed to vent.
Does anyone have any advice as to where I should go from here?
