    @Sammy86:  Ours sat in another room rather than with us.

    Ours ate in the “back” with the rest of the catering staff and other vendors that needed a menu. Honestly, most of them literally grabbed a bite really quickly and went back to work, so I think it would look weird to have them seated at a table, whether by themselves or with guests. If you do decide to seat them at a table in the main reception area, I would still put a centerpiece because otherwise, your photos will have one table with no centerpiece. Another reason to not put them in the reception area is that in photos, you’ll end up with an empty or partially empty table in the background.

    Interestingly, a photographer I am facebook friends with just posted something about this, and one complaint was that photographers should have a seat in the reception room, not in a backroom with catering staff, because they could miss out on photo opportunities while they’re back there.

    @elysion:  That’s probably a good point if you only had one photographer. However, we had two so when one is grabbing a quick bite, the other is out snapping photos. In addition, they worked with our coordinator so they were eating when there wasn’t really anything exciting going on (like when everyone is eating). We also had two people manning the DJ station, so this wasn’t a problem in that arena either.

    The photographers sat with guests and the DJs sat at their DJ booth

    Hi Bees! I, being a photographer myself, feel that the DJ and Photographer/Videographer should have a seat in the same room either with the guests or at a separate table just for them. Either place them at  a table that only has a few guests at it, or a separate table by themselves. Some times, the DJ eats at his booth station. I work by myself, and I DO NOT photograph guests while eating. (unless special request such as a “first bite as husband and wife”) No one wants to be photographed while shoveling food into their mouths. They do not make good images. 🙂 and it puts pressure on the guests especially those that are camera shy. I use that time to eat for myself as most people don’t realize that us photographers are working non stop almost anywhere from 9-12 hours during that day, so it is a time to regroup and refuel for a few minutes for the upcoming cake cutting, bouquet tossing, dancing shots, etc. BUT I DO however keep my camera on and right by my side in case I sense a shot happening. I’ve even had bride/grooms schedule (if buffet style) me to eat at the same time the wedding party table is announced to go up. This way I am on the same wave length as they are and never miss a shot! That is much better! I’ve also had where I was seated with the guests, which honestly was a little out of place, but was better than sitting in another room for sure! That is NOT a good choice for the photographer in my own opinion. I would prefer to sit at a table in the same room but by myself / or with wedding planner, videographer or dj. etc

    @Sammy86:

    Your welcome! Glad to give my input! I would say to have a centerpeice yes. I feel that this way the tables all look the same, and it doesnt put a huge spotlight on “that” particular table of photographers/workers. We kind of blend in at the same time, are comfortable. I always appreciate when brides tell me first during the consultation, that they will include me into the dinner, and if they do not, it is written in my contract and discussed, that I am to be fed the same meal as everyone else. 🙂 We need that little break to regroup ourselves to perform the rest of the day/ reception! 🙂
