sunshineglam :  I will probably order it. I have prime. I have a feeling a lot of women get a dress before the wedding, didn’t know I’d be one lol

ecampbell :  seems like an easy thing to alter. I probably wouldn’t even go to a wedding dress alterations place personally. I may not to that for mine actually lol.

jerzgrlnmd :  Yeah, I’m just going to a regular tailor. My sister is visiting in April, so we’re going to go to a couple of tailors then to see how much it will cost and to, hopefully, get it done. ๐Ÿ™‚ I want her to be there with me because she knows more about that kind of stuff than I do!

Hello DMV bees…anyone have any updates? Fiance and I went to two open houses last weekend. The first was at the Billingsley House in Upper Marlboro, it was super pretty but the drive through the treament plant was a trip lol. They had their tent up so that was nice to see, it now has drapery which wasn’t the case in the past. My Fiance was not all the way sold on it lol. They said that the tent draping may change. This place would be $1115 for the house, tent, tables and chairs for a Saturday rental for 7 hrs. I actually did a 10 day hold, application fee is $50. Fiance said he can get over the tent. lol

The second place that we went to was Belmont Manor in Elkride…so gorgeous! Their tent was not up anymore but the space where it usually is was huge lol..holds 250. I was sold on that place but then I decided that the cost was more than I was comfortable with for the amount of people we are inviting, about 120 or less. It’s $4500 and you get tables, chairs, tent, and manor house (the bride and groom rooms etc) Also, we wanted a Saturday in May 2018 and all of them were already booked or had a hold lol. Crazy!

We are revisiting the Great Room Savage Mill as they have the dates in May we liked so we shall see.

jerzgrlnmd: Sounds like you are making progress!  Congrats on the hold, hopefully that or the Great Room will be the one, that is a great rental rate!  I LOVE tent weddings, if my original date (September 23rd 2017) had been available I would have prefered an outdoor tent wedding, there is just something so southern romantic about it that I love.

We are moving along but it’s smooth sailing lately.  We have:

Engagement shoot – Scheduled for early January – looking for inspiration now (I’m picky), I found a shoot I love but sadly there is no desert and/or dry lake beds here on the east coast.  And my pleas to the Fiance to take a trip with our photographer to Nevada aren’t working.  But I did buy a fabulous gown at Nordstrom Rack in DC yesterday so at least my outfits (3) are complete.

Venue – Finally decided to forgo renting the outdoor area at our venue (American Visionary Arts Museum), it was an additonal $1k and didn’t feel right.  Thankfully our wedding planner painted a perfect vision of having the entire wedding on one floor and convinced the Fiance with her creative wording.

Caterer- Our wedding planner has a caterer she loves (and gets a discount on) so last week we got a mock menu and quote from them and they are under budget which is great.  Still have to work on the menu items but so far we are on the right track.

Videographer – Finally signed that contract, we went with ThisDayFwd.

Wedding Party – Ordered personalized t-shirts & activity books for our 2 ring bearers to give to them around christmas.  Still waiting for Fiance to get back to me on his cousin being a flower girl.

Room Blocks – 3 signed, 2 contracts returned, waiting for the last one.

Wedding Website – Decided I didn’t like free one on the Knot so I paid (with discount coupon) for AppyCouple which is cute, been working on it the last few days, just sent to my mom and Fiance to review for grammatical errors, etc.

Invites – I think we are going to go with wedding paper divas as Gilt city is offering a deal right now to get either a $1500 or $500 voucher for 50% off.  We will probably get our save the dates from them too.  I am not so much into the paper but I want something letterpress like, super simple, just text, black and white.

Wedding Planner – 1st design meeting next weekend which I am super excited about, finally we get to the fun decorating stuff!

Makeup Artists – I have contacted 3 and just waiting to have a phone call with 1 in a couple weeks to make my decision.

Wedding Party – Sent my girls 2 different dress options to get their opinions on silhouette and we went to Men’s Warehouse and started a group for the groomsmen suits (since most live in the south).  Both the men and women will be wearing black, with my Fiance in a navy (brighter side of the navy spectrum though).

Whew, sounds like a lot but it really has taken so little time, I am super busy at my main career and my 2nd job so haven’t devoted much time over the past few weeks.

Best wishes to everyone for a happy holiday season and continued progress on your wedding planning!

sunshineglam :  Congrats to both of you on making progress! I feel like actually booking the venue makes the wedding seem *real* and then everything starts to fall into place. ๐Ÿ™‚ Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals were very helpful in moving forward our wedding progress, which had been in a lull for a while.

When I updated 2 months ago, we had:

  • Venue: The Lodge at Little Seneca Creek
  • Photographer: Tara K, LLC
  • Caterer: PIGS (Pork is Good Stuff)
  • Alcohol/ice/cooler rental: Lakefront Liquors (next door to caterer)
  • Cake: Co-worker’s side-business, Samantha’s Sweetscapes
  • Officiant: Co-worker/friend’s husband
  • Mini-moon: Kalahari Resort in the Poconos
  • Dress
  • Wedding website through TheKnot
  • Honeymoon registry through Wanderable
  • His ring picked out but not ordered (and he got me the set, so we’ve had my wedding ring since April)
  • His suit picked out but not ordered
  • Some decor items (birdcage for cards, table number holders, etc.)

And here are the updates:

  • Engagement photos (included a few)
  • Flowers: Scentsational Florals
  • Created electronic Save the Dates (will e-mail out after the holidays)
  • Ordered invitations (35% off + free shipping on Paperless Post)
  • Bridesmaids decided they both liked the same dress (originally they were going to be mismatched), and ordered their dresses on Cyber Monday for a great deal–both dresses fit perfectly!
  • Purchased groomsmen and bridesmaid gifts (keeping it simple–ties and bracelets)
  • More decor items (an office supply store went out of business near me, so I got a “Just Married” banner and escort cards for $5!)
  • Picked out a few things to order on Amazon after the holidays when I have a little more money (necklace and headband for myself, flower girl basket (FSIL purchased her a dress for Christmas–which was at the top of her wishlist!), and electric candles for lantern centerpieces)

ecampbell :  congrats, you have made so much progress!  And beautiful photos!  ๐Ÿ™‚  You are so right, once you get that venue and date locked down it is sooo much easier to make other decisions.  You are only getting married a month before me so I guess I have some work to do!  2 of my 3 bridesmaids agreed on a dress last night so that is the one we are going with (my sister was the only one who picked the other but she’s pretty easy going so she will be fine).  And Amazon is the best for accessories!  I ordered a bridal belt and I am looking for a hair comb now.

I just got sample contract from the Great Room and we will most likely be signing a contract on Monday! After that, I think I will take a break until after the holidays. lol

ecampbell :  Love your pics! Also you have gotten a lot done. I feel so behind but we aren’t getting married until May 2018 which seems so far but I know it really isn’t. Made me almost want to elope lol. I think the time will fly by, I am moving in with Fiance in March so we are going to do some redecorating (bachelor pad city over there lol) and then we have a few road trips. All of that will keep me busy as well as planning this wedding.

sunshineglam :  You are on a roll! I can only imagine how hard it would be planning a wedding while having two jobs…whew! lol. I work from home 3 weeks out of the month so I have a little flexibility since I can research some things in the morning before my work day begins instead of being on the bus and train to work for an hour each way. I am just so happy that I did some pre-planning because otherwise I would have been super lost right now.

jerzgrlnmd :  yay for finding your venue!  That’s great news!  And my 2nd job isn’t as bad as it sounds, I only had out liquor samples.  LoL!  And thankfully next month starts our “slow season” so I will have more time to dive into wedding details.  But yes, pre-planning is always the best way, wish I had known my proposal was coming.  LoL!

sunshineglam :  Thanks! I love checking things off of my to-do list, so I’m WAY far ahead of where I need to be.

jerzgrlnmd :  You still have PLENTY of time! Our engagement will be 15 months, and I wish it were shorter! I think I definitely could’ve planned a whole wedding in 8 months or less. As much as you can get done before you move in with your Fiance would be awesome, but you probably don’t really need to finalize anything until after then. ๐Ÿ™‚

ecampbell :  I wish ours were shorter too but living separately right now makes it harder to save…if I had a wedding fund like I said I would create years ago (lol) then we could have gotten married already tbh.

Welcome to 2017!  I know with the holidays we all went off the grid and I really have no updates, just looking into makeup artists now and deciding on what kind of cermony music we want.  We met with our planner a couple weeks before Christmas and went over so much, now the quotes are starting to come back so we should have a lot more booked in the next month.  And this weekend we are FINALLY taking our engagement photos in DC, our photographer went on maternity leave the week we booked her so we have had to wait.  And of course this Saturday is going to be the coldest Saturday ever!

This should be fun undecided, but to update here is what we have booked already:

  • Venue:  American Visionary Arts Museum
  • Planner:  Jillian Jenkins with Elle Ellinghaus Designs
  • Photographer:  Renee Hollingshead Photography
  • Videographer: ThisDayFwd
  • Hotel Room Blocks:  Royal Sonesta, Baltimore Marriott Waterfront and Homewood Suites
  • Wedding Website:  Appy Couple
  • Dress: Vera Wang from Saks Jandel – now closed ๐Ÿ™
  • Shoes: Badgley Mischka from Lord & Taylor
  • Earrings: Nadri from Nordstrom Rack
  • Groomsmen Suits:  Men’s Warehouse

Hopefully everyone else has made more progress than me and enjoyed their holiday season!
