melissa17 :  Awesome! The first thing we had decided (before we were even engaged) was our first dance song. The title is engraved in FI’s ring (which just arrived yesterday-eee!). It’s called “On a Night Like This” by Kylie Minogue. Fiance is actually a huge Kylie fan, haha.

This is the version we’ll use:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8ifPLLlZyo

I’ll have to listen to the song you mentioned! Maybe we can have it play at some point during our reception. 🙂

ecampbell :  That’s so awesome that you decided on your first dance song before you even got engaged, and even MORE awesome that the name of the song is engaged on your FI’s ring!  Congrats on it arriving by the way!  One step closer!

melissa17 :  Yes! That was our last “big” purchase, so it feels like we’re almost there! Only a little under 5 more months!

ecampbell :  yay, congrats on the last big purchase!  I am still trying to catch up to you!  This weekend we make final selections for our new house so I am hoping I can get back into wedding planning after that is finished.

ecampbell :   thanks!  We did order our invites tonight, wedding paper divas 40% off sale was ending so it was as good a time as any.  I liked the invites on Minted more but I couldn’t pass up that discount!  This is the one we got, super simple and modern (not our information):

sunshineglam :  Woohoo! That’s exciting! I feel like getting the invitations made it more real, and I think sending them will make it REAL and maybe send me into a panic…We’ll see!

We got ours on Black Friday from Paperless Post (which we also used for our e-Save the Dates). 35% off plus free shipping. Gotta take advantage of those deals! Here’s the design we used (not our info either):

I actually LOVE ours because we’re having a casual wedding and using mostly sunflowers. Yellow and green are our colors, so we changed some of the text to be green.

sunshineglam :  love those and great deal! We will probably get ours from vistaprints, I’ve used them a lot through the years.

ecampbell :  soooo pretty. How did you like the e save the dates? I keep going back and forth about using paperless post. I already made a mockup but I just don’t know. Did you send it out to all ages? Did people understand it?

jerzgrlnmd :  I sent our e-STDs to everyone except 2 people who don’t have e-mail. For them, I ordered 5 free samples from Shutterfly and made them look similar to our e-STD (I sent the others to our parents, and we kept one for our “scrapbook”).

Our STD was pictures from our engagement photoshoot, and it said SAVE THE DATE with our wedding date and our wedding website link. Everyone understood what it was about, and I only had to follow up with 7 people who hadn’t opened theirs. (I loved that feature! I could track who had opened theirs and who hadn’t. I also loved that people could send us messages.) It worked well for us, and not having to pay a dime was even better! I feel like Save-The-Date Cards are more of a courtesy thing, so I personally didn’t see the need to spend any money on them.

Happy 1st Day of Spring, it’s been a couple weeks since I updated, mainly due to the new house but it’s official, we are buying a new house!  We have selected all our options and now we are just waiting for them to break ground next month, here is a pic of the most expensive pile of dirt I have ever purchased!

But back to wedding planning!  Here are my booked vendors with some updates below:

  • Venue:  American Visionary Arts Museum
  • Planner:  Jillian Jenkins with Elle Ellinghaus Designs
  • Photographer:  Renee Hollingshead Photography
  • Videographer: ThisDayFwd
  • Hotel Room Blocks:  Royal Sonesta, Baltimore Marriott Waterfront and Homewood Suites
  • Wedding Website:  Appy Couple
  • Dress: Vera Wang from Saks Jandel – now closed
  • Shoes: Badgley Mischka from Lord & Taylor
  • Earrings: Nadri from Nordstrom Rack
  • Groomsmen Suits:  Men’s Warehouse
  • Catering – Rouge Fine Catering (they will probably do our open bar too as the pricing came back much lower than I thought it would)
  • Makeup – Glam Qui
  • Veil – Blanca Veils on Etsy
  • Save the Dates – Wedding Paper Divas
  • Grooms Attire – custom Joe suit from Men’s Warehouse
  • Room Draping & Lighting – GoEventPro

Updates:

  • Invites – Wedding Paper Divas
  • Hair – Universal Tresses (friend from my 2nd job does hair professionally)
  • Bridesmaid Dresses – Lulus (I wanted something affordable that they can wear again) https://www.lulus.com/products/tricks-of-the-trade-black-maxi-dress/104922.html
  • DJ – DJCurry
  • Bridal Gown Alerations – Anytime Alterations, Kensington, MD
  • Ceremony Harpist – Laura Stokes
  • Bridal Suite – Royal Sonesta Harbor Court
  • Florist – My Flower Box

I took my dress for alterations last week, Fiance had his 1st fitting of his “custom” suit this past weekend, it looks great, we went with a brighter navy tux jacket with black satin shawl lapels.  Next up we are contacting bakeries to do the cake, I am a BIG sweets person and love cupcakes but I just can’t get into wedding cake, they usually don’t taste good to me and seem like a waste of money.  But either way, our planner gets a discount with one so we will go for a tasting with them.  I also found a bracelet for the wedding day (on sale at Macys) and ordered a custom label for the inside of my dress with our monogram and wedding date.  I have also changed to a pale grey, ivory and nude palette for our wedding decor colors, here is my most recent inspiration board with most of our rentals included:

Any one else have any fun updates?

sunshineglam :  Such an exciting update! Congrats on the new home purchase! I would LOVE to purchase a new home someday, but I doubt it will ever happen unless Fiance or I change jobs. 🙁

I love the color palette! How did your fitting go? My alterations are going to cost more than I paid for my dress, but I was expecting that.

ecampbell :  Thank you!  Ohhh really?!? I was starting to doubt changing my colors (it used to be all ivory/white).

My fitting went really well, a friend recommended the seamstress and she seemed to really know her stuff, she isn’t cheap but I think its worth it.  It only needs to be taken in at the bodice, but I am also adding cups so I don’t have to wear a bra.  She will also press it and do some lace repairs (my dress was a sample and has a couple weak lace spots).  That is going to cost me around $400 :-/
