Think I am a little behind you all posting but I have been planning for a few months now. Matt partner and I are getting married at Woodlawn Manor in Sandy Spring, MD (we live in Silver Spring) on Oct. 9, 2016. Actually feel like most of the big details are booked. Stone Soup Catering http://www.stone-soup-catering.com/, 1000 Words Photography http://www.1k-words-photography.com/, Silk flowers from Etsy https://www.etsy.com/shop/PosiesPearls, DJ http://mydeejay.com/, Colors are burnt orange, ivory, and burgundy. For the rehearsal dinner we are going to have something here at the house with BBQ and Saturday college football. Wanting to honeymoon in Italy. So that is where we are nice to meet you all (and hope you dont mind a guy crashing the party)!

I’m already married, but thought I’d share a few details on our wedding to represent VA as well!

We got married Sept 2014 and had a gorgeous small wedding (40 ppl including us).

Venue: Evergreen Country Club in Haymarket, VA.  They did a great job accommodating our smaller group and not making it feel like we were an island in a huge amount of space.  We had them do day-of coordination as well, but probably would have been fine without it.  We did a lot of the setup ourselves (except setting up the tables/linens/table settings for the reception).

Caterer: Evergreen Country Club.  Food was delicious and better than most other wedding food I’ve had.  My brother is a chef in DC and came to the tasting to help us refine things a little bit too.  The house wines were great!

Baker: Mom’s Apple Pie Co in Leesburg, VA (yes, we served pie instead of cake and it was DELISH and way less expensive!)

Officiant: Wendy Jones (county civil celebrant).  She was great, and incidentally, the only one I contacted willing to use the ceremony that we wrote instead of her own.  Also totally affordable, since by state law, they are only allowed to charge $50 plus travel costs.

Photography: Jodi May Photography – LOVE her work.  I can’t say enough good things about Jodi.  She was super easy to work with, turned everything around in advance of the (quick) deadlines, and was very affordable.  She also designed us an AMAZING album that even took DH’s breath away when we looked at it.

DJ: Chris Rao from Sound Wave Entertainment in Haymarket, VA.  He was pretty low key, which is exactly what we wanted.  He played the kinds of music we like, and did a great job pacing the reception.

Dress:  Leesburg Bridal and Tuxedo.  They had the dress I had my eye on right from the start, and were able to order it quickly without a rush charge so it would come in plenty time for alterations before the wedding (we had a 6 month engagement).  Alterations were done in house and the dress fit me great.  Price was about what I’d consider average.

Bridesmaid or Best Man Dresses: David’s Bridal in Woodbridge, VA.  I gave my girls a choice to wear whatever they wanted and would be comfortable in, but they wanted matching dresses.  We found cute dresses in the perfect color for under $100 and that was that.  Neither of them needed alterations and they bought their own shoes online.

Groom Suit Men’s Wearhouse in Sterling, VA.  WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!  I will never go back to them for anything.  The rest of the men wore suits they already owned and oddly, it turned out that the guys’ suits got incrementally darker in the perfect ombre pattern.  I swear we didn’t plan it that way!

Hair and Make Up: Rusty’s Hair Salon and Day Spa in Leesburg, VA. They did hair for me and 2 BMs, and my makeup.  The cost was very reasonable and the work was perfect.  They opened the salon just for us (normally they are closed Sunday) and had I think 4 people there taking care of the 3 of us.  They even brought us mimosas to start the day off right!

Invitations: Bought an invitation kit from Joann Fabrics and DIY’d the rest.

Flowers:  Sam’s Club for bouquets, bouts/corsages, and centerpieces.  DIY with silk flowers for a few random arrangements (ceremony arch, cocktail hour tables, gift table).  Costco for mums for ceremony aisle decoration.  All the flowers turned out great and I was especially impressed by the arrangements from Sam’s Club.

AgileK9s:  Thanks for sharing! Evergreen CC was in our top choices for the area. We ended up going with River Creek but I will def look into your suggestions for the other vendors!

lamjam87:  I looked at River Creek too!  If I recall, it was just the price we couldn’t do.  We were on a pretty small budget and Evergreen CC was able to do the entire thing (including space rental, food, drinks, chair/linen rentals, DOC, and gratuity) for about $4500.

AgileK9s:  yeah, River Creek has a minimum purchase. Kudos to you for finding a venue that worked for your budget!

~Alright, I set up a meeting with an officiant and sent some inquiries to photographers. I plan to book both this month! Compared to everyone else, I seem to be far behind but I’m trying not to stress myself out, especially bc I work FT and am a PT grad student. I’m trying really hard to keep my sanity, these days lol.
