I LOVE wearing wigs!

I gave most of my wig collection away though.

My mom got cancer in 2011 and I was losing my hair to my anemia, so I shaved my head when my mom began chemo. I actually walked around completely bald for a month, and I loved being hairless it was freeing, and just flat out awesome. I was really scared to ever lose my hair let me tell you! But once I got the courage to just do it I would never change what I did.

As my mom bought herself wigs, so did I. I bought a few natural wigs so when I went to school I’d look “normal.” The picture below is me in the brown wig, and my mother in her blonde wig.

People are surprisingly okay with women in wigs. I only got a side-way stare once. I took off my wig once at school because I was getting too hot, and some guy’s jaw just dropped, and was like, “You’re bald!” But other then that no one really knew I was wearing a wig until I told them. People aren’t staring to find anything out of the ordinary.

The brown wig in the picture I bought from a magazine called TLC where they sell professional, real looking wigs, and I recommend them highly!

I also bought some halloween wigs for the different colors and I still have those and I still love them.

I don’t know if this matters but I also use Ovation which is a three step system for hair care, and I love that hair care system. It has helped me grow back my hair, and I mean GROW back my hair, I also take a vitamin once a day for hair, skin and nails and that also helps.

Now I do not really wear wigs since I started Ovation, but keep a few for nostologic reasons. I’ve given the rest away to other cancer patients needing some wigs. Hope this has helped!

I don’t wear a wig but I just wanted to say get one and ROCK it. You are moving to a new area and can totally re-invent yourself and I think that’s great. I also think a sassy reddish color would look good on you Laughing

@Bazinga:  +1

I don’t, but half the time I wish I did – I would love to wake up, throw on a wig, and have great looking hair! I say get one (or many!)

i have a closet full of wigs!! teh best thing to do is look for a color and style that will go wiht your face and skin color, i prefer “lace front” wigs, and i dont use glue, it has a more natural hairline if you like to wear your hair away from your face, and you can putt a few strands of your own hairline to make it look more real. also if you choose synthetic hair you should always dust them with baby powder to take away teh fake shiny look. always style them how you like, play around with it, not just how it looks on the model. i cut mine to fram my face, ive taken inches off a few. the possibilities are endless. if you have any questions PM me, id be glad to help.

One of the easiest and simplest natural hair growth remedies that you can find in your kitchen is the apple cider vinegar. Who would have thought that this cooking ingredient can help you grow your hair quickly? This vinegar is extracted from seedless apples and does not undergo distillation. Because of this, the important mineral and enzymes that can help you grow your hair are not lost. You should apply a cup of apple cider vinegar mixed with 1 ½ cups of water on your scalp to remove bacteria and dead skin cells that block the pores where hair grows. You can do this in the shower, before you apply your regular shampoo and conditioner. Use the mixture like a shampoo, massaging your scalp for a couple of minutes and rinsing off the mixture from your hair.

– Another cooking ingredient that you can easily find in your kitchen is olive oil. Olive oil has been used by ancient people in Greece as skin moisturizer. They bathe in olive oil to have smooth and supple skin. You can also use this for faster hair growth. Apply olive oil on your hair and scalp and massage for a few minutes. You should do this before going to sleep. Cover your head with a shower cap. Upon waking up, remove the shower cup and rinse your hair to remove smell and traces of olive oil. You will notice how silky and shiny your hair becomes after doing this procedure.

– You can also try using flaxseed oil as one of the natural hair growth remedies to stimulate faster hair growth. Sometimes, hair does not grow because there is a problem in the circulation in your scalp. To treat this problem, you should apply flaxseed oil on your scalp and massage it on your scalp for 3 minutes or so. Leave it for 30 minutes to let your scalp absorb the flaxseed oil. Rinse and wash your hair afterwards.

@MissCalifornia:  Thanks for the compliment!

The wigs I’ve worn are “cap” wigs where you put them on like a hat, and personally I would recommend shaving your hair like a crew cut at the longest because what I experienced while I was growing my hair back was that I got really hot. I am a cold person – I am almost always a cold! But wearing a wig with short hair underneath it made me over heat! And it made me really uncomfortable.

I would suggest calling or going into a wig store and talking to them about hair care, wigs, and everything you want answered. They are very knowledgable and even allow you to try on some wigs to see how you’ll look/feel. I bet they’d really ease your mind.

The vitamin I use is: “Hair, Skin & Nails” made by Purvana. It has 2,500mcg of biotin per gel which you take once a day. I’ve noticed in two weeks my hair is thicker, and stronger, but that is also because I use the hair care system with it.

Ovation is 54.95 and the bottles are 6 oz. each. One thing I love about them is you can always get a refund if you don’t like it. To get the bigger bottles of Ovation it gets expensive….At least to me anyway. It is about 95.00 when they’re on sale and 110.00 on regular I think.

Hope this has helped you!

@CarpefnDiem:  You have a lot of nice wigs!

OP, I have worn wigs for stage performances before (before I became sick) I can’t really say anything that CarpefnDiem hasn’t already said, she has a lot of great advice! I also prefer lace fronts.

I personally think wigs are great because you can change up your hairstyle ALL THE TIME and I’m one of those girls that tends to get sick of my hair and change it all the damn time anyway. So that’s a huge bonus of wigs for me.
