We use condoms and Fertility Awareness (check Taking Charge of Your Fertility out from the library, amazing book!). We use condoms even when I’m not fertile, and then condoms + spermicide (or opt for something other than penetrative sex) when I am fertile. We realllly don’t want to get pregnant before we’re ready.

Also, it can be fun using condoms in a monogamous relationship! Buy a few brands or a variety pack and find out what kind you both like the best!

we do and always have had. I LOVE that my SO uses that intitiative so I dont have to bother with taking possibly dangerous medications. We’ve had our children and dont plan on anymore (I cant carry anyway).

He er.. lasts longer Embarassed and the sheets are cleaner..

Neither of us have std’s and are both reliably faithful.

Whatever floats your boat I guess!

I have been off the pill just over a year and feel great.  My husband and I use the pull out method if we are having sex around ovulation.  Other than that, we just… do it normally?  Haha how does one word that?  We had no pregnancy scares and were able to get pregnant when we wantes to – in February (miscarriage) and in March (nice and sticky!).

@Mimoza:  Lol! That’s good that it’s been so reliable for you. I’m sure this method will become at least part of our combo since we want to wait a couple years to TTC. Hopefully we’ll be as successful as you guys!

@MrsPanda99:  Yep. I couldn’t stand the the pill and went off it a couple of months after we married. Then it was condoms alone for about 3 years until TTC, and condoms in between kids too. After a while we got brave and went bareback when I wasn’t fertile, and had one unplanned (but welcome) pregnancy that way. But that was after 8 years without a problem.

I have severe PCOS. If I’m not on bc pills I have a super high sex drive but I can go a year without ovulating, and get terrible ruptured cysts. When I’m on bc I have no sex drive at all. I just stopped my birth control and we stick to condoms. No fun, but I actually like to enjoy sex haha

The hormones in birth control made me feel crazy for lack of better word. I got off them about 4 years ago & have used condoms with my previous boyfriend & my Fiance. Neither of them mind it & I feel much saner… No pregnancies or diseases either, so they’re doing the job! 🙂

Used properly… Condoms can work just fine.

I am over 50, and have been sexually active since I was 18 (23 years of that with one man, my First Hubby).

I have used a variety of BC over the years… The Pill, Condoms, Diaphragm, and Sterilization.

I got off of artificial hormones in my 20s, and have never looked back !!

My longest go-to for BC was either Condoms or Diaphragm (21 Years) … with no “surprises”… so when used correctly, I would have to say that “Latex DEFINITELY be your friend”

😉 *wink*

Hope this helps,

I’ve been using only condoms for about 6 years and it’s going well so far! I tried so many different hormonal BC types and it was ruining me.

My Fiance and I are not into BC bc of hormones and before we got engaged we only used condoms for 9 yrs.

I really want to at least have sex without condoms on our honeymoon…but I’m not sure what the safest alternative is. I know IUDs are relatively safe and some of the bees love them but I think I need an appt with my doctor because I have never even spoken to anyone about alternatives.

All of the other options I know of worry me though because I imagine it getting misplaced in there and tearing my uterus or something!

Also, Fiance almost always pulls out (even though we use condoms).

I would rather he not but I think he’s paranoid lol.

Yes, we have done so for over 5 years now.

No conception so far, and not long from now we’ll be TTC.

@MrsPanda99:  I absolutely hate them- haven’t used them since the very beginning of our relationship.

I went off the pill in April 12. We used the pull out method with no issues. I tracked my cycle & knew when I was fertile. I am pregnant now after a vacation where we got a little lackadaisical about pulling out. But for a solid year we ha no issues. I think for me this proved that pulling out is effective– as long as he actually does it!! I have had friends that use this as their only method for years.
